Hillside Nest in SBFZ: Brkfst, Kitchen, Netflix!
A 3 bedroom home at the edge of the forest, our #HillsideNest is great for families and friends looking for a quiet getaway. The neighborhood is very safe. Our neighbors enjoy peace and quiet. Guests can use the old tennis/basketball/badminton court, swimming pool, billiards table. 5 mins walk to El Kabayo trailhead, 10 mins drive to Subic Bay CBD - mall, restaurants, 20 mins drive to the various theme parks in base. @thenestbythesea is a legitimate, tax paying business. SBMA Permit #1769 We designed this space to be a retreat from the hustle and bustle of the city. There are several nooks to lie back and relax - read a book, write a novel, or conquer the world from your laptop. The house keeps cool and clean even if it's hot outside. We are on the 2nd floor of a 4 unit house with no elevator. The covered garage connects to a covered walkway and a private staircase and front porch leading to the front door. Our neighbor has a couple of small dogs, so they will likely bark when you arrive. They are tied up, so there's nothing to worry about. Entering the house, you will find a hallway which connects all the rooms. The living and dining room connect to the back porch, which has a view of the backyard and the forest behind the house. If you like fresh air, you can open all the windows in the daytime to get some cross ventilation. There are electric fans in the closets of each room. We suggest you close the doors and windows at night. We don't have screens, and the forest insects are attracted to light. There's an AC unit in each bedroom, and one in the living room for your comfort. We're very particular about overusing fossil fuels, so please only switch on the ACs when you are in the room to conserve energy. The small bedroom has a queen sized bed good for 2 persons. The large bedroom has 2 double beds good for 4 persons, and the master bedroom has 1 queen sized bed good for 2 persons. The master bedroom has its own en suite bathroom, and there is a bathroom at the end of the hallway for sharing. The kitchen is fully stocked with basic appliances, pots, pans, etc. good for a group of 8. Subic Water is potable. Our Hillside Nest is your private home for the duration of your stay. Unlike a hotel, we don't have any single use items for you to take home. We use large boxes and rolls of tissues etc to limit the amount of trash we generate, and we provide several items to make your stay more comfortable. Please refrain from taking home any extra food, tissues, toiletries or other items we provide. Those items are meant to be used in the Nest and should last for several batches of guests. The kitchen is stocked with tea, bread, eggs, peanut butter, bananas, porridge, milk, coffee, cooking oil, salt, pepper, and potable water. The bread is kept in the freezer, so make sure you check in there. Help yourself to whatever you want, and leave the rest for other guests! Hillside Nest is equipped with high speed internet, so if you can figure out the smart box, you will have access to Netflix for the duration of your stay. Because we live in such a woody area, sometimes our connections are disconnected by monkeys or falling trees. Unfortunately, there's not much we can do until the service providers send a repair crew. Let us know if something is not working, and we'll get it looked at as soon as possible. Feel free to read from our library, but please return the books where you found them before heading home. :) The old clubhouse is located a block away. It's a short walk, and you will be well rewarded once you get there! Though the facilities are old, they are in decent condition. Swimming pool, tennis court, basketball court, playground, badminton court, and billiards table can be found there. The billiards table is missing a pool cue though. We're working on stocking more sports equipment for our guests to use soon! You can picnic by the pool, but alcoholic beverages are not allowed. We live 15 minutes from the Hillside Nest so feel free to call us for anything, and we'll get you sorted out. If we don't answer right away we're probably in the water but we'll get back to you as soon as we can! Our neighborhood is home to mostly retired tenants. They are quite friendly and may approach you for a chat. Please be nice to them! We like to maintain a good relationship with our neighbours. Binictican is one of the residential hills in Subic Bay. The housing area was built for the American Navymen who were stationed here in the 70s, and you can see from the houses that it still very much looks like it did back then. There are a couple of convenience stores nearby where you can get simple meals and basic necessities. For other needs, there are a few groceries and markets in Subic Bay CBD (Central Business District), about 15 minutes drive from the Hillside Nest. Binictican is a great place to watch for birds, monkeys, and other wildlife. Our Nest is a 5 minute walk to the El Kabayo trailhead, which will take you to El Kabayo waterfalls. It's quite a pleasant walk on the horse trail. You can explore Binictican on our bamboo bicycles for a rental fee of P250/bike/day. We have several bikes available. There are several beaches nearby. Our favourite beach just a short drive from Hillside Nest, Camayan (20 minutes drive) is a nice beach with a restaurant. Acea Resort is just down the road from the airport ( 20 minutes drive) and they have day packages which you can avail of. For scuba diving, Subic Bay has some nice wrecks. Summer is the best time to go when the water is clearer. Let us know if you need help finding a dive shop and we'll point you in the right direction. Advanced divers only. We highly recommend a speedboat day trip to the nearby coves. The dock is just 10 minutes from the house and it's the quickest way to go see the nearby beaches. More info in our guide book :) For snorkelling and Island hopping, we recommend Zambales. Just an hour drive away, a good day trip is island hopping to Capones Island Lighthouse with a stop over at Camara Island for some snorkelling and lunch on the beach. The jump off point is Pundakit in San Antonio, Zambales. Let us know, and we'll connect you with our friends who have a boat there. Pundakit is also a great place to find surf from June-February. We are a 10 minute drive from Subic Bay CBD. Some attractions and beaches are difficult to access without a vehicle. We recommend you have your own car or motorcycle when staying with us! If you are commuting, there are WinStar jeeps that come around about a block away from our village. They are the white transport jeeps which stop by the gate. Those run from 9-5, and can bring you to and from town. Taxis are available 24-7. Car, Van, Jeep, and Motorcycle rentals are also available for those who prefer to drive themselves. FACADE Our house is connected to 3 other houses, so the facade of our home might look a bit shabby. Though we try to maintain the paint job often, the humidity catches up to us real fast. NOISE We live in a very quiet neighborhood, and our neighbors are very sensitive to noise. We can’t tolerate noisy or rowdy groups especially after 9pm. Please be aware we have a downstairs neighbor, who might be bothered if there is too much heavy footed walking or running above them. ACTIVITIES We can help connect you with our friends who do surfing, sailing, yoga, forest survival, island hopping, or guided trail hikes. We have mountain bikes available for rent. Please let us know in advance so we can bring them over to the unit. Rent is P250/day/bike.
