Callander Hostel - Dochart
Set in one of Callander’s oldest and most distinctive buildings, Callander Hostel is ideally located within the Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park, just a short drive from Stirling making it a great base for exploring the beauty of the surrounding area - whether by foot, by bike or by car. The hostel is run as a social enterprise, with profits helping to support young people in the local area. Whilst some guests will prefer to only use their private room, we understand that others will still wish to make use of our communal facilities (including lounge and kitchen). Although guests using these areas do so at their own risk, we have made several changes to help reduce this. We have reconfigured the lounge area so that each room can have their own table whilst still respecting social distancing guidelines. Guest Lounge Kitchen Garden Guest check-in available from 16.00hrs - 20.00hrs Emergency contact telephone number will be sent to guests prior to arrival Situated within Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park, Callander is often referred to as the “Gateway to the Highlands”. Unsurprisingly, it is an intersect point for a variety of tourist routes: multi-day walks (the Rob Roy Way); touring routes (Heart200) and National Cycle Route 7 (Glasgow to Inverness). The town has various amenities, such as supermarkets, cafés and a laundrette, yet still benefits from the beautiful rural setting. The town is within easy driving distances (or in many cases, just a short walk from) numerous popular walks, hikes and other tourist attractions. Whilst staying at Callander Hostel, many guests hike up the nearby Ben Ledi or the stunning Ben A’an. There are easier local walks to the picturesque Bracklinn Falls or following the River Teith along short sections of the cycle path. Guests also enjoy visits to Blair Drummond Safari Park, Doune Castle (used in the filming of ‘Outlander’ and ‘Monty Python & the Holy Grail’), Go Ape Adventure Park and the Walter Scott Steamship on Loch Katrine. By Car: Callander Hostel is less than an hour’s drive from Glasgow and Edinburgh Airport. Travelling north on the M9, take exit 10 and follow the A84 past Blair Drummond Safari Park towards Doune. Continue on the A84, following the signs for Callander. Proceed along the Main Street until you reach the traffic lights – turn left here (following the sign ‘A81 – Glasgow). Just after turning at the junction you will cross a bridge; Callander Hostel’s distinctive building is easy to spot on your right (opposite the primary school). By Public Transport: Callander can be reached by bus from Stirling via First Bus Service 59/C59. These buses run approximately every hour throughout most of the day; the journey lasts roughly 45 minutes. The First Bus timetable can be found via their website, alternatively TravelineScotland offer excellent information for all public transport journeys within Scotland. The bus stops at the War Memorial on Ancaster Square. From here (facing the church across the road), follow the road left until you reach the traffic lights. Turn left here and cross the bridge – Callander Hostel’s distinctive building should be easy to spot on your right (opposite the primary school).
