Bill's at Goathill Farm
Welcome to Bill's! A peaceful, secluded shepherds hut on the bank of a small lake, set in the rolling hills of our organic dairy farm. Bill's all booked up? How about you check out Bill's big brother, Edgar's! A little bigger, and just as beautiful! The huts can also be booked as a pair for two couples. Enjoy a cup of tea whilst watching the cows come in for milking, a glass of wine trying to spot the baby moorhens, or if you're feeling a bit more active head over the stile and along the footpath into Sherborne or Milborne Port. Upon arrival there will be a small hamper of local goodies, which will vary dependent on season and may contain eggs if the chickens are laying well! Bill's sleeps two in a double bed, and is complete with electricity, a single ring hob and fridge freezer. To keep you warm and cosy, there is an cast iron electric radiator. The loo, washing up and shower facilities are just 100m away through the orchard. The hut does not have running water, however there will be water in the fridge on arrival and a water container provided to transport water from the washroom. These are shared with just one other shepherds hut. If you're looking to cook up a storm, you'll want to make use of the fire pit, but if not the award winning fish and chip shop in the next village is always worth a visit! A trunkful of wood and kindling are provided, and further is avaliable to buy from the store by the washroom. You will need to bring a torch, and wellies if wet weather - it gets muddy on the farm! If you're booking for a special occasion, let us know! Be it champagne, cake, or something different, we'll do our best to organise it for you and keep our lips sealed! Hopefully we'll see you during your stay - probably down by the chicken run! But if not, just pop by and knock at the farmhouse, or give us a ring. Your immediate neighbours will be just the cows and sheep on the farm, with the farmhouse 100 metres away. If you're quiet and they fancy a swim, you might spot the ducks, moorhens, and dabchicks that you share the lake with! The hamlet comprises of only eight houses, and the tiny church which you can see from the hut. We're lucky enough to be in a peaceful spot, but with plenty of good pubs, resturants and even a bit of culture just a short drive away. The local pizza man, Bakerman Dan, cooks and sells amazing pizzas from a farm gate just a few miles away (check his (Hidden by Airbnb) page for the days he's cooking), and just in Milborne Port there's the Clockspire, a bit more of an upmarket option for a special occasion. Sherborne's lovely for a coffee and a mooch, and has a market on Thursday and Saturday (look out for our lovely potter, Anna, who created the plates and bowls in the huts). The abbey is worth a look around too! A little further away (about 25 minutes drive) you will find Hauser and Wirth Somerset, a pioneering gallery, alongside fantastic gardens and the Roth Bar and Grill, which does some great food. Sculpture by the lakes (described as one of the most beautiful sculpture parks in the UK) is well worth a visit as well! On a wet day you might find yourself exploring the rooms of Stourhead or Montacute house, or perhaps if military history is more your idea of a day out Fleet Air Arm museum or Bovington Tank Museum. We have included in the hut maps for a few of our favourite walks, included two directly from the farm gate! All of these make the most of the Dorset countryside, so should make for some good views and wildlife spotting opportunities! The hut is also just steps away from a footpath, which leads into Sherborne across the fields. Into Sherborne and back would be an eight mile trip, but if you're not sure about the return there's a taxi company in Sherborne near the station.
