Hamsterley Holiday Cottage
Our comfortable 150yr old cottage is set by the village green within a short walk of a local country pub and within 1 mile of the entrance to Hamsterley Forest, popular with mountain bikers, dog walkers and families. Well behaved children & dogs are more than welcome. If you like cosy evenings beside an open fire and like to get away from all the hustle and bustle of city life, the cottage is a place you can do just that. Ideal retreat for couples, small families or small groups of friends. Our cosy & compact little cottage, is situated in a rural village, we are ideal accomodation for your outdoorsy getaway, if you like walking, cycling, moutain biking and/or horse riding, the cottage is perfectly located for your stay. We love to welcome pets and their owners, all we ask is that they aren't allowed up on the furniture (the pets that is ;) ), purely for hygiene reasons, we have dogs and children ourselves so understand they can sometimes bring the odd hair, bit of food etc! Accomdation includes downstairs; a living room with open fire, exposed wooden beams and stone walls, 2 comfortable sofas, and a healthy supply of DVD's and books. There is a fully equipped kitchen with Oven & Hob, Kettle, Toaster, Microwave, Coffee machine, Iron & ironing board and a Combi Washer/Dryer is available for washing clothes from muddy walks, rainy bike rides etc. The bathroom is on this floor so is easy to access directly from the kitchen and living room if you're soaking wet from the great outdoors, please note the bath shown in the images is not able to be filled with hot water until our new air source heat pump and boiler have been fitted - likely timing of this will be early 2022, but the shower is fully able to be used and there is a small boiler for heating enough water for washing hands in the bathroom and dishes in the kitchen sink. Upstairs there is; One large bedroom, with a King Size Bed, 2 x Single beds, all with bedside tables, a chest of drawers and two cupboards for your personal items, there is also a combi TV/DVD for use. Outside; There is a small enclosed multi-tiered garden at the rear of the cottage which is small but private and is for use and only accessible for guests. There is a garden bench and small table along with a kettle BBQ which you are welcome to use. **Please note that there has been a local TV Mast fire recently so all TV from Freeview is unable to be viewed until a full fix has been actioned by the authorities*** There are approximately 200+ DVD's available for your use, approx 100 books to choose from or you are more than welcome to bring your firestick/chromecast or other type of dongle/tv viewing HDMi plug in device. Apologies for any inconvenience caused - we will update as soon as possible. The village is a typical country village which has one Public House and a Social Club, please note there is no village shop - the nearest shop is approx 4 miles away where you can stock up on all the essentials, there are also several petrol stations nearby where you can refuel and who all have the main essentials. For larger stores/supermarkets Bishop Auckland (7miles away) has all of the Big 4 (Sainsbury's, Tesco, Asda & Morrisons) plus Aldi, Lidl, Next, PetsatHome an M&S Food and allsorts of other types of retail therapy. Parking is outside of the cottage and is on a lowered pavement so just enough off road to unload your bags, pets and/or children! This is a rural area so please expect farm traffic, animlas nearby and their associated noises and occasionally - aromas :) Please note that there is very little in the way of Public Transport from the village but local Train & Bus Stations can be found at Bishop Auckland only 7 miles away. Taxis can also be ordered locally. We live in the village so make the keys available for your arrival and then leave you to relax and enjoy your stay unless you need any assistance or local advice. A lovely rural village with friendly people, a great local country pub serving real ales and home cooked food, the forest is within walking distance and the cottage has great access to the outdoors, walks, bike rides and dog walks. OS maps can be borrowed from us to plan activities and we'll help with advice on local attractions wherever possible. Access to local transport networks is excellent, major roads are easily accessible from close to the village although public transport to the village is a once a day occurrence each way, but local trips can be arranged with us for a small fuel charge should it be required. We provide a starter pack of logs, coals, kindling, matches (normally enough for two nights), and if requested, a lit fire for your arrival. If you require more fire supplies please advise and we can make sure these are at the cottage for a small charge to cover the cost of items. For example a bag of kindling £3, net of logs £7, small sack of coals £6, large sack £12. If you have any specific dietary requirements please advise us so that we can arrange essentials to be available ready for your stay. Breakfast for the first night’s stay is provided in the form of a small pack of bacon, 6 fresh eggs, pint of semi-skimmed milk, small selection boxes of cereals, a selection of jams/marmalade’s, butter and a small loaf of bread to get you started.
