Welcome to Fold House Cottage. Our cottage is ideally located in the small village of Herbrandston, just 12-15 minutes walk from the beautiful beach of Sandy Haven in the heart of the Pembrokeshire National Park. The cottage itself dates back over 200 years and the sitting room was originally the kitchen of the old farm house. The ceiling still has the original meat hooks in the old wooden beams. The focal point of the room is the multifuel burner and surround which has been lovingly restored. To the right of the fire place is an old doorway, now blocked off, which used to lead the farmhouse dairy. The old slate step is worn down and smooth by footsteps and the passage of time. The brand new kitchen is designed in keeping with the cottage, whilst benefiting from all mod cons, such as induction hob, Bosch fan oven and even a dishwasher! Not to mention a Krups coffee maker, bread-maker, slow-cooker and orange juicer! Off the kitchen there is a large pantry/storage area leading to the downstairs WC and Utility room with washing machine. The kitchen also leads to a gorgeous sunroom, facing the enclosed rear garden and the famous Pembrokeshire banks which run to the rear of the property. Upstairs are four tastefully furnished bedrooms, two double and 2 single. The family bathroom is light and airy and has a bath and electric shower. As our guests, you will have the entire cottage to yourselves. There is a utility room with a washing machine and freezer as well as the fully equipped kitchen. We have compiled an instruction manual with full details of how to operate all the gadgets. There is also a folder of local information, attractions, places to eat and drink, visit, see and do. We do not live at the cottage but are local and are always contactable by phone should you need us. Sandy Haven beach, the closest of many wonderful beaches, is a beautiful beach revealing an enormous expanse of sand at low tide with plenty of rock pools. At the east side of the beach, known as Sandy Haven 'pill' it's common to see white eagrets, cormorants and kingfisher. There is now a new crossing, replacing the old stepping stones, which allows access across the waterway for 2 hours on either side of high tide. It's a perfect spot for crabbing. We are 12-15 minute walk from the east corner of Sandy Haven beach via a field footpath which joins the Pembrokeshire coastal path. Walking along this path we regularly see buzzards, and recently we've seen red kites. You are also likely to see oystercatchers, kittiwake, gannets and chough. Maybe even a peregrine falcon! We have a wild animal spotting log in the cottage for you to record your sightings! We love to hear about what you've seen. Nearby are the famous villages of Marloes with its stunning, wild beach, and Dale, perfect for watersports. Little Haven is just 11 minutes away by car and has three pubs. Broad Haven is just minutes further by car, has a huge sandy beach at low tide and is popular with surfers and bodyboarders. A little further north along the coast is Druidstone with is spectacular beach and iconic hotel. A 5 minute drive east out of Herbrandston is Milford Haven. Here you will find a selection of shops for your provisions, including a large Tesco as well as the newly developed Milford Waterfront. There are plenty of lovely bars and restaurants to be visited, our favourite being Martha's vineyard where you can sit on a raised sunny deck and enjoy the spectacular view across the moored yachts and their tall masts. We would advise a car to make the most of this beautiful countryside. However it is possible to arrive by train to Milford Haven and use local coastal shuttle buses to get about. There is a bus stop in the village and a time table in the local information folder. *Two small/medium sized, well behaved dogs are welcome at our cottage. They must remain downstairs and off the furniture. *Please follow the recycling rules of the cottage displayed in the utility room and in the guest information folder *We cannot accept bookings for party groups, stag, hens etc *Please bring your own beach towels. *Linen, bath and hand towels are provided.
