Retiro do Capitão

This beautiful stone house is set in a large lawned garden, with many shade trees and a paved terrace for outdoor dining and a terrace in front for watching the sun rise with your morning coffee. The house has an open-plan lounge/diner with a double sofabed. The well equipped kitchen leads off this and there is a second sink unit outside the back door. The double bedroom has ample storage in it's large wardrobe and the bunk room can be used by 1 or 2 adults, or up to 3 children. The large private garden surrounding the house is mostly lawn, with plenty of play space. Badminton and table tennis equipment are provided. Retiro Capitao has a breath-taking view of the neighbouring island of Pico, with it's classic cone reaching 2351 metres into the sky. The locals say you can predict the weather by observing the clouds around it's peak. Pedro Miguel is just 10 minutes by car from the main town of Horta, where you can experience the thrill of a whale watching trip, explore the island on a jeep safari, visit the whaling museum, hire bicycles for a thrilling downhill ride from the caldeira and much more... I will take care about the reservations while Cristina meets and greets the guests and show them around the house. There is an information pack and we help with booking trips, such as whale watching, plus making myself available for any calls during their stay. Pedro Miguel is a rural community, based on farming. The locals are friendly towards foreigners and walking in the area is delightful, with no restrictions and beautiful countryside. From "Retiro Capitão" you can walk for hours without passing another house. We recommend renting a car or scooter as public transport is unsufficient on the island. There is ample private parking on the property. The bus stop is located 400m, in front of the church. The bus leaves Horta in the morning 07:10h, at noon 11:45h and 12:40, mid-afternoon, 15:30h and early evening 18:00h (none operating on weekends). If you prefer not to hire a car, I can arrange for a taxi to collect you from the airport or ferry terminal. Taxis are quite reasonably priced.
