La Varache is situated in the heart of the Limousin countryside. This area is often referred to as France's best-kept secret. The whole region is filled with trails and footpaths that wind their way through the lush un-spoilt scenery and countryside. La Varache is situated in the heart of the Limousin countryside near the village of Eymoutiers. This area is often referred to as one of France's best-kept secrets. The whole region is filled with trails and footpaths that wind their way through the lush un-spoilt scenery and quiet country villages that the whole district is renown for. If you are looking for a peaceful and relaxing time to unwind from everyday stress then this is the place for you! Equally, if you are looking for activities or places to visit then La Varache is an excellent base from where to explore the surrounding countryside and attraction La Varache is set in 45 acres of pasture and woodland surrounded by forestry land. The river Vienne runs alongside the property and is excellent for fishing. La Varache offers two self-catering holiday homes (gites). They have both been tastefully converted from a 15th century house incorporating many modern facilities along side original old world beams and log fireplaces. Cottage (Gite) Two accommodates up to 6 people. There is a Bar-B-Q /stone terrace area for those who want to cook out at the same time enjoying a glass or two of wine while watching the sun go down. Gite Two has a pleasantly decorated and comfortable lounge with a wood burning stove, dining table and a large bathroom under the mezzanine. The living room has a mezzanine bedroom with a double bed. There is a large kitchen which is also fully equipped with all your requirements for self catering and cooking for all. (Diswasher, Washing Machine, Microwave, etc) The upstairs has an ensuite bathroom and a large bedroom with a double bed plus there is a double futon bed. This room also benefits from a French window that looks over the valley with beautiful views. Outside, this gite has its own deck outside the kitchen with picnic table, chairs and coffee table plus BBQ. There are two gites at La Varache which can be rented together to make one large gite or rented separately for smaller groups. Both gites have full central heating for all year round letting. There is French television in lounge and Wi-Fi internet access. Both decks face west and are a delightful for evening soirees. Our own home is also located at La Varache. We are there on hand for you if you need us, but are also located far enough away from the gites that you will not know that we are there. The local village of Eymoutiers has a produce market every Saturday (as well as 1st and 3rd Thursday of every month) where you can wander by the many stalls to purchase a variety of delicious local cheeses and homegrown produce. Don't worry about parking. Eymoutiers hasn't yet heard of pay car parks or meters! There is also a supermarket, banks, hardware store, restaurants, etc. If you are looking for some shopping or a bit of the city life, Limoges is only a 30-minute drive from La Varache. This ancient roman cathedral city, which is famous for its porcelain, offers plenty of activities including several historical sites. There are two fresh water beaches close by: Lac de Vassiviere and even closer (10 kms) at Chateauneuf la Foret. Lac de Vassivière or Vassivière Lake, one of France's largest artificial lakes, is a large man-made reservoir of about 10 square kilometres. It is situated on the Plateau de Millevaches in the départements of Creuse and Haute-Vienne. La Varache is located 6 kms from the small market town of Eymoutiers. There is a train station in Eymoutiers, but you will need a vehicle to reach La Varache and to explore the region. There is also a taxi service in Eymoutiers but must be booked well in advance.
