Arthog is a small village very close to the holiday town of Barmouth and within walking distance of Fairbourne. It is a great holiday destination for walkers, bikers, families or people who just like relaxing and watching the view. This cottage is a beautiful 2 bedroom, Grade 2 listed Victorian terrace with lots of lovely original features. These include the original sash windows and a wood burner. The upstairs has been freshly painted ready for our visitors in 2020. There is a road immediately outside the house and from the front door, there is a small step into the entrance area and then into the lounge which has a wood burner with a fire guard. During the cooler months wood or coal supplies can be bought at the local shop in Fairbourne or Dolgellau. It also has a tv and dvd player. Heating is via electric storage heaters, they heat up overnight and release the heat during the day. It is important that you leave these on during the day as they will not heat up overnight if you switch them off - full instructions are provided in our welcome pack which we will email to you before your stay. On your left is the cosy kitchen - diner. It is well equipped for your holiday cooking needs. There are plenty of things like mugs and glasses and enough pans to be able to cook a Sunday roast if you want to. It also has stunning views out to the hills and the Mawddach estuary. If you are lucky then our friendly robin will come and eat from the bird feeder on the kitchen window whilst you are cooking. Tea / coffee / sugar supplies are provided as well as cleaning basics. Upstairs are two well appointed double bedrooms and a recently fitted family bathroom with electric shower over the bath. Both bedrooms have stunning views over towards the estuary. Bedroom two has bunk beds. Duvets and pillows are provided, but we ask you to bring your own bed linen and towels. The house has Wi-Fi. As with many areas of Wales, mobile reception can be patchy due the hills around the area. There is a small, secure, enclosed courtyard at the back and across the road there is a private garden which is perfect for relaxing and taking in the views. In the front garden there is a locked shed where you are welcome to store your outdoor gear or bikes. There is a road between the house and front garden, but we often take food and/or drinks over into the garden and when you are sat looking over the field and towards the hills you would never know that the road is there. If you are feeling energetic then it is a 3 minute walk to the Mawddach estuary trail which runs from Dolgellau right through to Barmouth via the famous estuary bridge. It is perfect for everyone from families with their first bikes to more serious runners and bikers. Mountain bikers will enjoy visiting Coed y Brenin for some of the best mountain biking trails in the country. It also has a great kids play area and a lovely café. There are some great opportunities for days out with Fairbourne steam railway only 10 minutes away, Barmouth and Dolgellau are within walking/biking distance or you can get the bus or train if you don't fancy driving. There are plenty of places to relax, drink coffee or eat good food in Fairbourne, Dolgellau or Barmouth. On arrival, you will find that we have left you some of the essentials like tea, coffee, washing up liquid, cleaning fluids and toilet rolls. Due to COVID we have decided not to supply bed linen or towels, so you will need to bring your own for your stay. The welcome information pack will be emailed to you before you arrive. Parking for the property is in a layby approximately 100m from the house but you can park outside for loading/unloading. We will take one dog in the property but ask that they stay downstairs. It is a non-smoking property. You will have access to the whole house, back courtyard and front garden. The front garden is across the road from the front of the house. We recommend parking outside the house for unloading or packing, there is a layby along the road for overnight parking. If you have problems during your stay, the phone number for the local manager is in the guest information book. There is so much to do locally. Why not try crabbing in Barmouth, a trip on the steam train at Fairbourne, walk up to the Arthog waterfalls or just have fish and chips on the beach. There is a great fish and chip shop in Fairbourne and a general store for all your basics. Bigger supermarkets are in Dolgellau. It is a 10 minute walk from the property to a "beach" on the estuary. A 10 minute drive to Fairbourne where there are some shops, a steam railway and a beach. You can park outside to load and unload your car but we recommend parking in the layby just down the road. There is a bus that stops near the house and you are a short walk from a train station. Please note that the Welsh COVID19 guidelines are different to the English ones.
