Barnes Lea farmhouse
Barnes Lea farmhouse has many original features as well as modern comforts including excellent WiFi, and finished to a high standard. Part of the ‘Cliffe Park Farm Stays’ and situated on a working farm with parkland which has 3/4 mile frontage to Rudyard Lake as well as having the Staffordshire Way footpath running through makes this a great base for exploring the beautiful surrounding countryside and visitor attractions. Barnes Lea farmhouse is an 18th Century stone built home. Full of rustic charm and original features, the farmhouse and its large private garden will have once been the heart of the farm with stunning views over the Peak District and the village below. The farmland - a former Victorian golf course - has 3/4 of a mile frontage of the beautiful Rudyard Lake. The Staffordshire Way runs through the farmland and provides access to a 5 mile walk around the Lake. Guests will also be able to benefit from direct lake access from the farm fields. I live on site and am around most of the time and happy to answer any questions or help in any way I can. The farm is nestled in parkland with 3/4 mile frontage of Rudyard Lake, a huge tourist draw in the Victorian era, and where Rudyard Kipling's parents spent their honeymoon. Further afield, the town of Leek and the neighbouring surrounds of the Staffordshire Moorlands present a wealth of family-friendly locally run businesses providing great produce and offering outdoor adventure. Within five miles of the farm you can experience rock climbing at the Roaches, a stunning escarpment which marks the end of the Pennine Way; Tittesworth Reservoir with kayaking and paddle boarding and a brilliant childrens' playground and cafe; mountain biking and motorbike scrambling. There are dozens of stunning walks, local markets and great pubs selling good food made from local produce. Our nearest town, Leek, affectionately called 'The Queen of the Moorlands' is a friendly Totally Locally market town. There are markets on all through the week and lots of local home-grown produce available. As a Totally Locally town, it supports local small businesses so you will find lots of independent cafes, bars, health shops, antique shops and the like. Further afield are the beautiful towns of Ashbourne, Bakewell and Buxton and the adventure of Alton Towers is only 17 miles away.
