Superking B&B in lovely home in rural village
Fabulous private superking 'suite' on top (2nd) floor + private bathroom + quality continental breakfast in my lovely four bedroomed home (shared with two small dogs) where you would be my "paying guests". Easy parking and lovely garden. Great views, dark and silent nights in a friendly and thriving village with a fabulously stocked "community" shop, good pub and interesting church surrounded by amazing commons, countryside and many fabulous places to visit. Hi speed broadband. The house is on the edge of the village. If you are woken early in the morning it will be by nearby cows birthing or going to milking, hens or birds. There are no pavements, street lights and little traffic - so bring a torch if you want to walk back from the pub. The spacious room is very private, alone on the second floor (with a door on the first floor dividing it from the rest of the house) and has a small private bathroom beside it. The room has a very comfortable, superking bed, an empty chest of drawers and space to hang clothes. It also has newly fitted (Aug 2021) blackout blinds on the velux windows. A fold-out bed with a proper mattress is also available if you are a party of three. Your shower is in the larger bathroom on the first floor which is also private to you assuming no one else is in my twin room (not advertised separately so usually empty). Should you wish to book the twin room as well please let me know. I also have a very comfortable, small double sofa bed on the ground floor (if your party is even larger) but the room entrance has only a curtain not a door. I have a large kitchen warmed by an Everhot cooker (like an Aga but more modern) which is the heart of the home and in which you are welcome for breakfast. The house if full of art so please enjoy it and respect it. There is also an electric piano you are welcome to use - assuming you play. Keys to the house are available. Please note that the house is not suitable for wheelchair users, very elderly people or those with major breathing problems because of the steep stairs. There is parking for one car in my drive and free parking on the track outside and throughout the village. The nearest train stations are Tisbury (7 minutes by car) and Gillingham (15 mins). There are also stations at Salisbury (30 mins) and Westbury (30-40 mins). If I am available, I can collect from stations for an appropriate fee. Tisbury station has no taxi rank and all taxis around here should be booked well in advance (3-4 days minimum, preferably a week). There is no public bus transport to speak of at all. You can fly privately into Compton Abbas airfield (15-20 mins). The nearest commercial airports are at Exeter, Bristol, Bournemouth, Southampton and, of course, London. My biggest 'ask' is that communicate with me as much as possible and tell me, in advance, about the nature of your party, ages, names etc so that I know which beds to make up (with what design of linen) and whether I need to buy gluten/dairy free products for you. Everyone is welcome here. I just need to know what you want in advance so I can look after you properly. I will interact as much as suits you - within social distancing rules. This is my home and I live and work from here. I am based in the large kitchen (with TV) so we can be very separate if that's what you want. Staying here is more like being a paying guest in my home rather than being in a "professional" B&B. I love to meet new people so I'd prefer to have open and friendly relations with the people staying with me but clearly we need to be more careful now with Covid-19. If you are 'bad' in the mornings I can keep chat to a minimum of breakfast requirements. If not, I'd love to know more about you and what you are doing in the area. Normally, I would invite you to use all the common areas but it involves a huge amount of additional cleaning, so you will have free (unmasked) access to/in the large kitchen, the stairs and landings and your bedroom and bathrooms on the first and second floors. Semley is a beautiful, friendly and thriving village off the main roads and tucked away in a designated 'Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty', seven minutes from the famous ancient Saxon, hill-top town of Shaftesbury. The views are fabulous, the village is great (amazing shop and good pub all within a few 100 yards) and Shaftesbury, Tisbury, Salisbury, Stonehenge, Avebury, Wells, Bath, Bristol, Glastonbury, Sherborne and even the coast are within less than an hour's drive. Semley is also the antiques centre of the area (in Station Road) and is now a major axis between two major contemporary art galleries - Hauser & Wirth in Bruton (35 mins drive) and Messum's in Tisbury (10 mins drive). It is also surrounded by amazing National Trust and English Heritage properties, You need a car, bike or motorbike here unless you simply want to walk around the village. Public transport locally is atrocious. Taxis are rare and difficult to book. Trains at Tisbury (6 miles), Gillingham (8 miles) - the Waterloo to Exeter St David's line - and at Westbury (30 mins drive), the Paddington to Bristol/Exeter/Penzance line, and Warminster (20 mins) the Bath line. I can collect/drop at local stations for a small fee if agreed in advance. Bikes and motorbikes can be chained to metal posts under my carport. Apologies but my cleaning charge has had to be increased to cover deep cleaning between guests under the new regulations re Covid-19 - so it's better value to stay for longer!
