Peaceful garden cottage
Garden Cottage is a peaceful annexe adjoining a beautiful 17th century manor farmhouse in a secluded valley. This lovely one bedroom property has its own extensive garden and sheltered terrace. Less than a mile to the stunning North Devon coast. Garden Cottage is a peaceful and secluded space for two. The living room is a calm and comfortable space with a small woodburner, a sofa and armchair, a TV and DVD; it leads through to the dining area with table and chairs, sideboard, and an armchair comfortably positioned next to a large selection of books. The living room and dining area have French doors out to a sheltered slate paved terrace which is a lovely place to have breakfast as it catches the morning sun. Three steps lead down from the dining area to the sunny galley kitchen which is equipped with a fridge, a rather basic electric oven and masses of storage. There is a small pine table and two chairs here as well. The windows look over the owner's beautiful garden. From the living room, stairs lead up to the attic bedroom tucked under the roof. This is a pretty room with skylights, a double bed and cupboards built into the eaves, but the beams are very low so mind your head! There is a bathroom with WC, basin and bath with shower over. The floors throughout the living area and bedroom are sanded and waxed pine floorboards. The cottage is heated with radiators and of course the woodburner if required. A basket of firewood is provided and more can be purchased if needed. * Pets are welcome by prior arrangement with the host - we specify one dog but are happy to be more flexible if appropriate. There is a small weekly charge and we ask that they are properly supervised as we have free range chickens and there are sheep in the surrounding fields. Guests have the use of the lovely informal garden which spreads out from the terrace - mown lawns and paths, another pretty terrace surrounded by roses and lavender, dry stone walling and beds planted with cottage flowers, and fruit trees growing on a south-facing grass slope. A stream winds through the property and the gardens are filled with birdsong. Kate and Jonathan, the owners, live on the property and so are available for advice or help if needed. We are ideally placed for the stunning North Devon coast - the south west coast path is within a mile from us and can be reached on foot by footpath and lane. We are close to the historic port town of Bideford and the pretty riverside villages of Appledore and Instow. Westward Ho! with its fantastic beach is only 2 miles away. North Devon is a beautiful part of the world and offers so much for visitors - sea, river, moorland, golf, sailing, cycling and of course beautiful rolling countryside. We are close to the county border so the beaches of North Cornwall are also easily reached from here. Really you do need a car; there is a bus service from Bideford to the village of Abbotsham but it is infrequent. If you are walking the south west coast path we would be happy to arrange to collect you from Abbotsham Cliffs or Westward Ho! to save your tired legs! Tea, coffee, milk and sugar will be provided. The cottage does have WiFi but please note that we are in an area with low speed broadband. Visitors are welcome to bring a dog (*small extra charge) but we must make you aware that this is a rural area and there are often sheep on the adjoining fields, so you must be responsible for your dog at all times.
