The Marcaneto hill is located on the slopes of Mount Bulgheria, between the mountain village of San Giovanni a Piro and its seaside hamlet Scario. It is a quiet and peaceful residential area surrounded by greenery where villas and farmhouses are scattered among oaks, holm oaks and olive trees. It boasts an enviable view of the Gulf of Policastro and the beautiful coast of Basilicata with its picturesque Maratea; from here on the coast of Calabria unfolds as far as the eye can see. It is very easy to reach the port of Scario on foot or by car, and from there embark on one of the shuttle services that lead to the wonderful beaches and coves of the Costa della Masseta, one of the main pearls of the Park. For mountain lovers there are several trekking routes that can be done in the area, starting from San Giovanni a Piro, just ten minutes away by car. Sapri is the largest town in the Gulf of Policastro. Trains from Milan, Bologna, Rome, Naples and Reggio Calabria stop regularly here. And from here passes the Statale 18, the road that runs along the southern Tyrrhenian coast. Traveling south for a few kilometers, through curves and bridges along the beautiful ridge overlooking the sea of Basilicata, you can reach Acquafredda and Maratea. Going north instead, the road runs along the gulf and connects it to Scario (Villa Sole), and then continues towards Marina di Camerota and Palinuro.
