Les Marronniers - Gîte 1 peaceful, rural cottage

Gîte 1 is a fully equipped 2 bedroomed ( 1 double & 2 single) cottage. A downstairs bathroom with w/b, shower and wc We can accommodate 4 guests. Cot or Travel cot at no extra charge. Bed linen & bathroom towels are provided at no extra charge. Pool and Hot Tub available to all guests. The pool is solar thermal panel heated from May to October, the temperature will depend on the amount of sun at the time of use. Underfloor heating downstairs and radiators upstairs for winter bookings. Les Marronniers Gîtes is an idyllic former farm set in the tranquil Creuse department of France’s Southwestern Limousin region. Our three gîtes are side-by-side modernised stone cottages and retain many period features, such as exposed timbers and stonework. Thick stone partition walls prevent noise passing between them. Each has a character of its own, but each is fully set up for comfortable family holiday living, including heating for off-season lets. We have 7 acres of private gardens and a beautiful meadow with lawned gardens to the front and rear of the gîtes. A sun terrace overlooks the pool, and there are far reaching views to the forests lining the horizon. Gîte 1 – has an open-plan kitchen leading to a sitting area and dining area with ample space for 4 adults and a baby, tiled floors with underfloor heating. Upstairs a double bedroom and a twin bedroom under the eaves. A cot/travel cot can be provided at no extra charge if required. The ground floor bathroom has a shower, wc and washbasin. You are free to go anywhere in our large garden, except our own private area, and to use the laundry room/Library. We ask only that you respect the peace and privacy of other guests. For those who just want to relax and soak up the sun, there is a large shared swimming pool (12 metres x 5 metres), with Roman steps, built-in Jacuzzi, and night lighting. France set strict safety standards for swimming pools. We support this initiative and require you to follow the common-sense rules for the pool, as well as other facilities. To minimise the risk of injury, or of damage to the pool liner, glass and sharp objects are not permitted within the pool compound. For safety reasons, we insist on the swimming pool compound being locked whenever there is not a responsible adult present. We are pleased to provide plastic glasses and picnic equipment for your use outdoors and in the pool area. There are also outdoor toys for the younger child. Next to the Gîtes is a library housing a large collection of books, DVDS, toys and board games for all ages. There is also a fully equipped laundry room containing a washing machine, tumble drier, airers, ironing board and iron for guest use. Gîte 1 has its own barbecue. We live in our own separate accommodation on the premises – there to provide any help we can offer during your stay, but discretely out of your way. Everywhere you will be passing through woods and lush rolling green countryside, populated by the world-famous Limousin cattle, as well as sheep, goats, ducks, horses and donkeys. Wild and cultivated fruit and nut trees abound, and wild-flowers now rare in Britain pop up on the field margins. Herons are a frequent sight, poaching fish from the many well-stocked étangs - somewhere between a small lake and a large pond - as well as hawks, kingfishers, and many other birds. Further afield, excursions to Limoges, Châteauroux, Guéret, Aubusson, Bourganeuf, Lac de Vassivière, Valençay, Issoudun, and even Poitiers are all within range as day trips, and all bring their own rewards too numerous to list here. Worthy of mention are the Brenne and Perigord-Limousin Regional Nature Parks and the 'Martyr's Village' - site of a notorious Second World War massacre - at Oradour-sur-Glane, just West of Limoges. Moving around by car is easy, with excellent uncrowded local roads, convenient parking, and for longer trips, a toll-free motorway running North-South through the region and numerous well-maintained Routes Nationales. For the more energetic, cycling is a popular way of getting about, whether on organised tours or just as the fancy takes you. Previous guests have enjoyed bringing their bicycles and we offer secure storage. When you arrive, we want you to find everything as spotlessly clean and tidy as you would at home. With only a few hours available for "change-over", we rely on departing guests not to set us an impossible task. Please make sure you leave the bathrooms tidy, wash up, clean the barbecue, oven and hob, and put all the furniture and equipment back where you found it. Bed linen and bathroom towels are provided (please bring your pool/Jacuzzi towels) within the rental, and changed weekly – or more often at a nominal charge of 10 Euros per person. A hairdryer is provided. We kindly ask that you respect the wishes of non-smoking guests and adhere to our Strict No Smoking Policy in all of our Gîtes.
