Homewood Cottage
Homewood cottage is situated in a private garden behind the main homestead “Homewood”. Homewood was built in 1876 by Dr Thomas Fletcher and was the original farm house in the area. The cottage was built in the early 1900s when the property was owned by George Alley a well know philanthropist. Guests can enjoy the private lawn and garden around the cottage, and wander down the hedgerow to the pond overlooking the Tauranga harbour. Homewood cottage is just off SH2 and despite its rural setting is only 5 minutes to Katikati township. Pukakura Road is part of the Katikati walk and cycle trails. Other attractions close by are Waihi beach, Karangahake gorge cycle and rail trails, the Tuapiro water hole, and Tahu Kauri bush walks. The Katikati market is on every Friday with a range of local produce available. The avocado food and wine festival is held annually in January. Homewood is down a long drive off Pukakura Road. The cottage is located behind the homestead garage (through the white gate). There is parking next to the cottage. You will be greeted on arrival. It is an easy 10-15 minute bike ride into Katikati township.
