Situated in Kirkby-in-Furness, a peaceful and friendly village on the edge of the Lake District National Park, the cottage offers fabulous views over the Duddon estuary, and the Lakeland Fells. The market town of Ulverston is a short drive over the moor (with stunning views), while the South Lakes (Coniston, Bowness, Windermere, and Ambleside) and the much quieter Western Lake District are all within easy reach for day trips. Provisions for your first breakfast are provided. The cottage is fully equipped with everything you need for a relaxing break. The living/dining area has comfy chairs, TV and DVD player, and an Aga wood-burning stove (wood for your first fire provided). The kitchen is equipped with a dishwasher, microwave, electric oven, gas hob, fridge/freezer, kettle, toaster, and a welcome pack to help you settle in. There is also a downstairs utility area with separate washing machine and tumble dryer and a bathroom (with shower, sink and toilet). On the first floor you will find both bedrooms, the main bathroom (with bath and shower), and access to the small den in the loft which has a television and DVD player (great for giving the children some space). The house has superfast fibre broadband and there is a small selection of books, magazines, DVD’s, and board games. Outside, there is a sitting area and a small garden. There is private parking for 1 car. Provisions for your first breakfast are provided - bread, butter, eggs, milk, tea, coffee, and herbal tea. Guests have full access to the entire house and garden. Check-in is via a lockbox (I will provide you with travel details and the code for the lockbox around 48 hours before check-in). I live in a nearby town. If you need some information about the area please send me a message and I'll be happy to do my best to help. If there are any problems with the cottage, please give me a call. I am happy to pop through to help you out. Kirkby is a small and peaceful village. It has a train station (over the road), 2 lovely real ale pubs (the Ship Inn [open Wednesday to Sunday] – dating back to 1691 – is just over the road and has a cosy fire and a lovely beer garden, the Commercial at the top of the hill [open Tuesday to Sunday] sometimes has live music at the weekends, both pubs do some food [pizza, burgers (Website hidden by Airbnb) the weekend]), Pam’s Cafe (open Sunday to Tuesday), local shop, medical practice, and children's playpark (at the Community Centre). This part of Cumbria is somewhat undiscovered and is brilliant if you love walking. There are plenty of walks on the doorstep, or within a short train/car journey. Coniston is just over 12 miles away, giving access to Coniston Old Man, Wetherlam, Swirl How, and the Langdales. A 10-minute train ride will find you at Silecroft where you can walk up Black Combe (or go sea fishing at Silecroft beach), while a 30-minute train ride will take you to Ravenglass, home to Muncaster Castle and the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway, providing access to the Scafell Range and one of the quietest walking routes to Scafell Pike - the tallest mountain in England. The nearby market town of Ulverston (Stan Laurel’s birthplace), with its numerous independent shops, cafes and restaurants, and regular festivals is just 5 miles away. While, the beautiful Furness Abbey, which dates back to 1123 and was once the second-wealthiest and most powerful Cistercian monastery in the country, is 8 miles away. Other local highlights include: Piel Island and seal trips (Barrow-in-Furness / seasonal), Laurel & Hardy Museum (Ulverston), The Dock Museum (Barrow-in-Furness), Brantwood (east side of Coniston), steam yacht gondola cruises on Coniston Water (Coniston), and Windermere Lake Cruises (Lakeside). As its name suggests, the cottage is just across from the station, which is served by trains 7 days a week and connects the beautiful Cumbrian Coast Line (worth taking the trip just for the views) with the West Coast Main Line. The cottage is less than 40 minutes drive from the M6. The entire Lake District is accessible for day trips - even Keswick, which is in the North Lakes, is just over an hour's drive away. There is parking for 1 car on the small drive, and further (free and unrestricted) parking is available on the street.
