The appartment is on the ground floor of an original old style stone house composed of 3 large apartments. Easy access to a large shared swimming pool with a splendid panoramic view over the medieval village and surroundings. There is a large shared swimming pool with a splendid panoramic view over the medieval village and surroundings. Please note that there are extra beds & cots for babies. I't's a very special place with everything you need for your stay. A wonderful view on the village, a large shared swimming pool and a spacious flat including all commodities and a sunny terrace to enjoy a lazy afternoon. A nice pool, a great terrace, a barbecue, wifi. The newly renovated old style stone house lies on the grounds of La Tenuta Cigiana. On the property you will also find a restaurant, vineyards and a large swimming pool. The restaurant is on the ground floor of an auberge and has a large terrace overlooking the little city of Casitglione di Garfagnana. It serves typical food of the region made with local products. The Chef cooks a variety of typical italian dishes (homegrown salads and garden vegetables, homemade pasta and oven baked pizza). The village is in the middle of a very luxious countryside where you will find a large amount of treks, trails and walks to go mushrooms picking or enjoy fresh olive oil, local wine, chestnuts and all kinds of other discoveries. Tourism Office : The Tourism Office is located in Castelnuovo di Garfagnana, they have a lot of nice recommandations and tips about the region!! Supermarkets: In Castiglione, you'll find a little market with fresh & nice fruits, 3 bars with basics stuff to buy (pasta, bread, coffee, cheese, etc...). There is a nice supermarket with local products in the village of La Pieve Fosciana called « COOP ». Cities/villages: Lucca (charming town, 45 minutes by car), Barga (charming little town, 20 min. by car), Sillico (25 minutes by car, great view, nice walks), Montecarlo (very good for wine tasting, 1h15 min by car) Trails: 1. from the house you can walk to San Pellegrino village (4hours walking). 2. Visit the “il parcho dell’orechiella” (natural park with a different trails, 25 minutes by car from the house). 3. You can also walk through the village of Castiglione and then head to “Villa”, this is a nice walk in the countryside. Bike rental : CYCLES MORI ROBERTO LOCALITA PANTALINE PIEVE FOSCIANA Mountain Biking: It is a great region for mountain biking! You can rent bikes or book tours on GARFAGNANA MTB Horse riding : You can ride horses in the countryside. We recommend to go to « agriturismo il corniolo ». (5 minutes by car from our house or 25 minutes walking) Canyoning: We do have nice canyons in the region, I recommend this two places : 1.Canyon Park in Bagni di Lucca 2.“L’orrido di Botri” (45 minutes from the house) Restaurant: In the village from Castiglione there are a few bars doing also aperitivi. On the ground of our House, there is the restaurant Il Castello, this is a familial place owned by my uncle Paolo, you can get nice pizzas and some typical dish from the region. A very good one also in “La pieve fosciana” called “Il Pozzo” (20 minutes from here) (reservation needed). Mulin Del Rancone in the village of Camporgiano (25 minutes from our place). Il Ciocco is an amazing place (Resort and Spa hotel) with a very good restaurant and one of the best terrace of the region with a great view on the village of Barga. Plenty of very good restaurant around and in Lucca, those are my favourite: Satura ; L’imbuto ; L’olivo (in the city centre) ; Osteria Dal Tambellini ; Vigna Ilaria ; Mecenate (slow food). Wine: For natural wines you have @ 20 minutes from our place : Podere Concori. Otherwise you have plenty of them along the road wine between Montecarlo & Camaiore. I know three nice places : Podere Del val Del sole ; Podere Valgiano ; Fattoria Sardi. We recommend to go to the Enotheque of Castelnuovo di Garfagnana (Pozzo di Bacco), they have a lot of different wines and they will give you nice recommandations for wine tour as well. Gelato : The best place in the region for having a Ice Cream is in Castelnuovo di Garfagnana : « In Gelateria ». They do home made and natural ice cream you will enjoy on a sunny place next to the Duomo in the historical center!! There is also a very good gelataria in the Village of Pieve Fosciana. Lakes & Rivers: There is a great river with a small beach in the village of Fillicaia, one you get in the village you need to get down towards the cemetery, park there and follow the path to the river. There is also a charming river @ the villages of Sambuca or next to the Mulin Del Rancone. An another one small river under the Village of Castiglione di Garfagnana, very pleasant & fresh during summer. There is also a nice lake to swim called “lago di Vagli” (30 minutes from here). If you come by car, there are 2 parking spaces next to house to load and unload. Your car has to be parked in the parking of the restaurant "Il Castello" (1minute walk from the house, on the same grounds). If you come by public transport, take a train to Castelnuovo di Garfagnana and then a bus to Castiglione di Garfagnana (around 20 minutes), stop @ "Cigiana". Have a safe trip!!
