Charming 2 Bed Annex at Georgian Manor House

The Manor House Annex is a charming, self-contained annex to an historic Georgian manor house which stands in beautiful gardens in the village of Merriott, near Crewkerne, south Somerset. Quietly situated overlooking the gardens of the main house, the Annex sleeps three people (one double, one single bedroom (cot also available on request.) Comfortable sitting room, modern kitchen, bathroom. The Annex has its own front door. Inside, a spacious hallway leads to a well-equipped eat-in kitchen with lovely views of the garden. Equipments includes an electric cooker, fridge with small freezer compartment no washing machine and a full complement of kitchenware and crockery. A high-chair is available on request. The bathroom has a bath and shower attachment (please note, the shower is an attachment and not a power shower), loo and washbasin. There is a large sitting room with a comfortable sofa and armchair, lots of books and a Ruark CD/radio. The Annex has its own modern and very efficient gas central heating and hot water system. Please note there is no washing machine in the annex, but guests are welcome to use the machine in the main house if needed. There is secure, off-street parking in the drive outside. You are welcome to use the garden opposite the Annex, which has a wrought-iron table and chairs and to enjoy the fields which belong to the house. You are also welcome to use the full-size, hard tennis court in the grounds (please bring trainers, rackets and tennis balls). Though attached to the main house, the Annex is completely private, with its own front door, parking and garden area; guests can come and go as they please. We occupy the Manor House and are very happy to interact with guests as much or as little as needed. We have lived in the area for 10 years and are very happy to give recommendations about places to visit, local restaurants and pubs etc. Merriott is a pretty, mellow hamstone village in South Somerset. It is surrounded by beautiful and ancient countryside which is perfect for cycling and walking. We are close to the border with West Dorset and the secret and enchanting Marshwood Vale lies between us and the Jurassic Coast. Merriott has the King's Head, its own very good pub with excellent food, as well as a cafe, farm shop, pharmacy and a Co-Op supermarket. The village of Hinton St George is a couple of miles away and boasts an award-winning gastro pub, The Lord Poulett Arms. Crewkerne, two miles in the other direction, has a wide variety of shops including a family butcher, as well as a well-stocked Waitrose. The local 'statelies' are Montacute House and Barrington Court (both National Trust) and are each 10 minutes drive away . A little further afield are beautiful Forde Abbey and Mapperton House, home to the Roper and Sandwich families respectively. The Jurassic Coast, with its charming towns of Lyme Regis (25 minutes' drive) and Bridport (35 minutes) are very accessible and we are frequent visitors ourselves. Lyme has a sandy beach which is perfect for kids, excellent cafes and restaurants including Hix; Bridport has pebble/sand beaches at Eype and Burton Bradstock, bookshops and many foodie delights. We are very familiar with all the local playgrounds, soft-play centres and other kids' attractions (including the not-to-be-missed Pecorama at Beer, 30 mins' drive away) and can advise parents on these. The Fleet Air Arm Museum at Yeovilton and the Haynes Motor Museum are both nearby and will appeal to older children. Sherborne, Bath, Exmoor and Dartmoor are also all driveable for the day. Merriott is around three hours' drive from London on the M3 / A303 and about 1.5 hours from Bristol. The nearest mainline train station is Crewkerne, two miles from Merrriott, with direct trains to/from London Waterloo every hour (journey time is 2 hours 20 minutes) and to/from Exeter (approx 1 hour). Our nearest airports are Exeter (1 hour drive), Bristol (1.5 hours) and Southampton (2 hours).
