The Barn at La Fouette
Escape to an ancient restored barn, imaginatively modernised. It sleeps 6, with tiled bathroom and 3 double bedrooms giving on to large studio living space and kitchen. Private entrance, balcony and terrace within large garden, and magnificent views across fields and mountains. Perfect for walking, fishing, cycling, canoeing, riding - and bathing in rivers close to their source. Delicious local produce from restaurants and markets across the region. Arriving at La Fouette you are coming to the open heart of the Cevennes National Park. This is an escape into the romantic history of this most beautiful part of France. The Barn is part of one of the most iconic local properties - originally on the route of the "transhumance" the way taken by drovers from valley to mountain pastures according to the seasons. At 1100 metres there are dreamy views from the Barn to well over 100k and apart from many birds of prey watch for foxes, hare, wild boar and all kinds of other fauna. The barn has its own entrance into a private garden and terrace. Stone steps lead up to the front door. The steps are steep so unfortunately we are unable to accept children of five and under or people with mobility problems. We are English but also fluent French speakers [plus some Spanish!] and we love to share our enthusiasm for this unique part of "la France profonde". We keep a comprehensive collection of suggestions for events and activities of every kind - from concerts to paragliding. We are always happy to help. For reservations we have found that most of our visitors prefer to book Saturday-Saturday so in July/August we can only accept bookings on that basis We are right in the middle of the Cevennes National Park - an area of outstanding natural beauty with some of the best "Grandes Randonnees" walking/trekking routes in France. There is no public transport, so a car is a must - although you can hire two wheels, horses or a donkey for longer treks. There is an auberge/restaurant just 1 km up the lane but proper shopping is a 40 minute drive away. A car is obligatory! There is a good mobile telephone signal around the property which everyone uses for internet access. For reservations we have found that most of our clients prefer to book Saturday to Saturday so in July/August we can only accept bookings on that basis.
