Mussoorie Cottage

The property's location was chosen by the Raja of Nepal for his residence, he bought from an english lady Ms. A.A. Fair, hence the Palace being named Fair Lawns. The Palace, though a heritage property, is now in ruins, but due to its unique and salubrious location, these cottages were constructed with a view to providing the guests with an un-interrupted panaromic view of the Doon valley on one side and the twinkling lights of the crowded Mall Road, Mussoorie on the other. The location is scenic and quiet. The cottage is a duplex type with a drawing cum dining room, with an open kitchen, and a small room for a single folding bed and a toilet on the ground floor. A staircase takes you to another small room for the extra guest, leading to the 2 bedrooms each with attached bathrooms. Open sitting spaces overlooking mountains and the Doon Valley. The cottage is accessible right upto the door by car with adequate parking, a rare luxury in hills. The property offers to the guests a safe gated campus with scenic views and prompts going on quiet walks over fallen oak leaves to nearby places. There are playing grounds for children, a Hindu temple, a club house which has carrom, billiards, table tennis and card tables for entertainment. Besides a fully equipped kitchen inside the cottage, home styled food can be ordered from the Club kitchen, against payment, and which be delivered to the cottage. Maintenance staff are available 24x7 and are all very helpful and courteous. Grocery shops and roadside shops are close by and will deliver on request. State bus service ply regularly and taxis are easily available for any destination around. Oak Grove School and St Georges School are within 1 Km. Jaypee Residency Manor and Claridges hotel, both high end hotels are within 2 Kms drive for good food/coffee/cakes. You have full access to the house and gated campus around it, including all facilities. There will be someone available 24x7 to help you including access to the house as well as tips on where to go and what to see/do. This is a walker's paradise with walking paths long and short, easy and difficult, paved and unpaved starting right at your door-step. The highlight being a beautiful but hidden water fall which can be reached on a goat track down the hill. In addition, I highly recommend the 1.5km uphill walk on a paved road to the gates of St. George's School to enjoy a well deserved bun-omlette and chai. For the Urbanite, the Jaypee Residency Manor and Claridges (Nabha House), both five star hotels are 5 minutes away if you choose to pop-in for cakes and coffee, or even a meal. Being 6 kms from Mussoorie's Mall Road, the cottage has the luxury of being away from the maddening crowds, but only 15 minutes away if you choose to paint the town red. The property is an excellent camp for reaching Dhanaulti at 10,000 feet height, Rishikesh, Haridwar or going deeper and further into the Garhwal hills to Badrinath, Auli, Gangotri, Yamunotri etc. Easy access to nearby and far-off places with a bus service and easy availability of taxis makes it an ideal spot for getting around. The nearest rail head is Dehradun which is 20 Kms by excellent road. The closest airport in Jolly Grant (Dehradun) which is 1.5 hours away. The cottage has been fully renovated and refurbished in February 2020 and is very good and comfortable. Its not trying to be a hotel but a home away from home 😊
