Guests can use our garden. I am always on hand to assist guests and do like to greet on arrival when I can. I live next door and will help with any queries you may have. I have extensive knowledge of the area having lived here for over 40 years. I can recommend local eateries, book tables, help with walks. Betty's cottage is located between Holmrook and Santon Bridge close to the River Irt. There are lots of paths across the fields around the cottage leading as far as the coast at Ravenglass, Muncaster Fell and Wasdale. At the end of the lane is St Paul's church where you will find a 9th century Celtic cross in the graveyard and amazing views of Wasdale valley. Wasdale is about 20 minutes by car and is the most mountainous of the Lake District valleys. Wastwater is the deepest lake in England, Scafell Pike is the highest mountain in England and the view from here was voted "BRITAINS FAVOURITE" all close to Betty's cottage. Hiking and walking here is a truly memorable experience. When you stand at the head of the valley you will be surrounded by the massive peaks of Great Gable, Scafell, Lingmell etc there are no finer mountains to walk. The miniature railway 'The L'all Ratty is located at Ravenglass and runs to the beautiful Eskdale Valley. There is a station stop within a 20 minute walking distance. Also near Ravenglass is the amazing Muncaster Castle. We are also close to the beaches of Drigg and Seascale. Due to the rural nature of the cottage a car is essential. The local railway stations of Drigg, Ravenglass and Seascale are approx 4 miles from the property. We have one taxi service in the area. The local pub is approx 20 minutes walk, 5 minutes drive away. Betty's cottage is situated up a very quiet country lane so a car is essential. The lane is gravelled and uneven. Betty's is attached to our home and B and B. We do live a very quiet life and are conscious of guests in the cottage. You may hear some chatting when my BB guests come and go, but this is minimal.
