Little Monkerai - Cottage
Little Monkerai is a 100 hectare property just north of Dungog in the Hunter Valley. It is primarily dedicated to wildlife and habitat conservation. Approximately 70% of the property is regrowth eucalypt forest with some pockets of dryland rainforest. There is abundant native wildlife including wallaby, pademelon, koala, birds & reptiles who have safe passage and right of way. There is also feral wildlife. Guests are asked to be considerate of this and ensure children & pets are supervised. Our guest wing is made of straw-bale and sits adjacent to the main house. There are two en suite bedrooms, a separate living/kitchenette with a sofa bed and a wood heater. Outside there is a covered cooking & dining space with induction cook top and wood fired pizza oven. There is also a fire pit with bbq grill. Guests have access to self-contained accommodation. Guests can also walk on several walking tracks that crisscross the property. Below the house is a dam with a jetty guests can swim from. The Hosts are generally available to assist guests with any queries. Little Monkerai sits between bushland and farming country. To the north is the Monkerai Nature Reserve and State Forest. Dungog is the closest town, a 10 minute drive away. It has most facilities eg, supermarket, cafes & pubs, banks, service station & hospital. Dungog is connected by a local and XPT train services to Newcastle, south to Sydney and north to Grafton & Lismore. Little Monkerai is easily accessible from Dungog on bitumen road except for about 1 km. We share the area with a lot of wildlife ie, wallabies, lizards, turtles & birds so guests are asked to be mindful of them when driving.
