Secluded cottage by the river Kolpa

Situated in a small secluded village Otok on the river Kolpa, the cottage is accessed on a few kilometers of an unpaved road that ends there. Here you can relax away from everything, swim in the river, cycle, hike, make canoeing trips, fishing... The house is in a canyon of the beautiful and clean river Kolpa, in a remote village, where you will not be disturbed. There is no internet. The nearest food store is half an hour hike or 10 minutes drive away. Unfortunately, a wired fence has been put up by the river in December 2015. Swimming is possible and the beach and the river are accessible through a gate. Guests have access to the entire cottage including the covered terrace by the living area and courtyard downstairs. There is enough space to park cars next to the cottage. A short walk away from the house there is a natural water spring where many locals come to collect water for drinking (it tastes much better than the one coming from the taps!). We live half an hour drive away and will always be ready to come by and help or advise you, should you wish so. We will acompany you to the house at the check in, thus should be preferably before 6 PM on the day of the arrival. The village Otok is a short drive away from the main road (15 min along the canyon from the town Vinica that lies on the border between Slovenia and Croatia). The last part of the road is a steep dirt road that ends close to the cottage. There are only a couple of traditional houses in the "village", a few of which were transformed to holiday homes. You can get to the house on a steep dirt road that ends in the village (in bad weather it might be challenging to drive down the last part). You can just stay at the house, relax and swim in the river. If you have a bike, there are wonderful tracks around, and with a canoe, you can make trips along the river (you can rent sports equipment in Damelj up the river). At a clear night you can observe stars without being distracted by lights or pollution. Due to the location on the Croatian border, the cottage offers a nice stopover when traveling to/from Adriatic seaside. Many tourist attractions are reachable with one ore one and a half hour driving: Postojna underground caves, Plitvice waterfalls (both Unesco world heritage sites), the capitol of Slovenia Ljubljana, Adriatic sea (croatian city Rijeka or the beautiful resort town Opatija). There are also a couple of wellness resorts a short (or slightly less short) drive away. It is recommended to check in during daytime (before 6 PM) as the house is quite remote. Having a car (or a bike) makes things easier. The tourist tax is included in the price.
