A spacious 5 bedroom country house, located in the National Park, enjoying magnificent views and grounds, with a tennis court. The house is situated in a peaceful, rural location, within walking distance of the popular town of Chagford. The house is in an elevated position, with the Teign River flowing below it, and enjoys glorious views over the Teign Valley, Chagford and Dartmoor countryside. Frank Whittle, the inventor of the jet engine, lived at the property between 1962 and 1976. The house was built in 1865 and has been fully modernised. It is spacious, light and airy. The conservatory allows you to enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner with unparalleled views of Dartmoor and Chagford. Throw open the conservatory doors on a sunny day and enjoy lunch on the terrace overlooking Dartmoor. Alternatively, cosy up on the sofa with a roaring fire and a glass of wine. There are two acres of grounds, incorporating an enclosed tennis court and a 10' spring free trampoline. Guests will have access to the entire house except the larder, which is located at the rear of the house through the boot room/utility room. Guests are also able to access the gardens and the tennis court. There is an Annex and outbuildings located within the property, access to which is not permitted. Please note, the Annex is empty and no one will be staying there. If assistance is required guests can contact me through AirBnB. The small town of Chagford circles around its octagonal Market House fondly called the Pepperpot; in short walking distance you will discover many fine old granite buildings, the beautiful church of St Michael and a wealth of unusual independent shops and art galleries. You will be spoilt for choice for eating with most places using local and organic food; there are boutique hotels, much loved local pubs and inns, several tearooms, cafes and a wonderful delicatessen. For walkers and nature lovers there are miles of open moorland to explore with its stone rows and circles, clapper bridges and ancient dwellings etc, or for a contrast the beautiful River Teign which meanders around the village and on through the Teign Gorge overlooked by Castle Drogo owned by the National Trust and on to the beauty spot of Fingle Bridge. There is also the tranquillity of Fernworthy reservoir. For those seeking peace and quiet and an escape from the hustle and bustle or a quieter pace of life Chagford is ideal, but it also has plenty going on with its famous festivals such as the Chagstock music festival, Chagford Film Festival and Chagword Literary Festival. It even boasts a wonderful heated open air swimming pool fed by the River Teign. Chagford is often called the friendliest place on Dartmoor.
