Comfy home near the beach, Southport & Liverpool

Formby is a fabulous base from which to enjoy the National Trust squirrel pine woods and outstanding long sandy beaches. The house is in a great location opening up onto extensive playing fields at the back, great for evening strolls, all ball games or throwing a frisbee about as you like. It is a quiet residential street, with peaceful neighbours, and a lovely garden to enjoy. The house is warm & welcoming with plenty of space to spread out, and lots of games for kids and adults to enjoy too. This is a classic 3 bed semi detached house, south facing, and in a pleasant quiet residential street. The main extension room at the back is a lovely bright, open plan, good sized room with kitchen, dining area, sofa bed & TV with basic Sky channels. The front room is our cosy lounge space and extra sleeping room when needed. (Bed 3) The sofa here is basically a single bed with covers and cushions. There is a large smart TV here connected to the internet. You will find all that you need to self cater, with a cupboard of basic essential items for you to use too. We just ask you to replace or add to these items to keep the system working for future guests too. The house is a 5-10 minute walk from the centre of the village. At the end of the road you will find a Fish & Chip shop and a little further an Indian restaurant(also takeaway), a Turkish restaurant, a Chinese takeaway, a small Spa market, and a pleasant Pub. Village parking at Waitrose is free for 2 hours, or there are a few free parking spaces also next to the swimming pool, opposite the post office. There is more paid parking in the village too. Formby & Freshfield train stations have free parking. Freshfield is closer a 10-15 min walk, just a few mins in the car. Buses....run at the end of the road (2 min walk) for the village bus, and to Southport or toward Liverpool. One room and a wardrobe in each bedroom will be locked, leaving ample space for all your own things in the remaining empty wardrobes and chest of drawers. We will not be available during your stay, but other family members live within the village and will be available in case you need anything. FORMBY : From the house it is a pleasant 10 minute walk to the village Center shops in Formby which include lots of small shops, restaurants/bars and cafes, M&S, and Waitrose. The village Center also has a fabulous public pool, gym and boules court looking out onto green landscaping and outdoor gym too. There are numerous summer events in the pool grounds during the Summer or over in Duke street park too. At this park you will find a great kids playground, free tennis courts, and footy cage and a big field to play. 5 minutes across Formby in the car brings you to either of the 2 National trust car parks leading to extensive pinewood walks and out on to the beach. Of course you can street park and walk through the woods for free, or we like to take the bikes when it is busy and find quieter spots. SOUTHPORT : This lovely typical British sea side resort is an easy 10-15 minute drive from the house or 10 mins on the local train line, where you will find the Marine Lake with boat rides & Pier buzzing with arcades, ice creams, music and rides. Theatres, museum and shops under the pretty Victorian walk way on Lord Street. Restaurants and cafes are in the town and out at the beach front complex by the fairground where you will find a big Vue cinema, bowling and Laser tag. Southport hosts an annual flower show and boasts the longest herbaceous border called Rotten Row....worth a wander. There is also a Splash world to enjoy with its slides and fun or a regular pool with sauna and steam rooms too. Southport has day of activities to enjoy. LIVERPOOL : Half an hour by car or train, has an abundance of sights to be seen. From the largest cathedral in the country to the famous Albert docks with all the museums, to the Cavern, theatres, Echo arena, big wheel and busy shopping streets, Liverpool is a big city hive of interest and activity. By foot from the house to......the village 10 mins, to the beach 30 mins, to local spa and takeaways 5 mins, to Freshfield train station 15 mins By Bike from the house to.....the village 5 mins, to the beach 10-15 mins. There are excellent bike routes from Formby into and around the canals, through the woods to Crosby, Ainsdale and Southport too. By Car from the house to.....the village 2mins, Tesco’s & petrol 5 mins, the beach 5 mins, Freshfield train station 3-5 mins, Southport 10-15mins, Liverpool 30 mins. Manchester & Blackpool 1 hour. MERSEYRAIL : there are 2 stations in Formby.....Formby & Freshfield (this is closest) both have carparks for free to leave the car. Trains run every 15 mins in both directions to Southport which is the end of the line and to Liverpool Moorfields ( good for Liverpool one & docks) or Central ( good for shopping , nightlife & theatres) Tickets approx £5 return As the house is laminated downstairs we ask you to remove shoe, especially high heels in the house please to help keep it in great condition, thanks.
