The spacious central courtyard has gardens to its right and the enclosed swimming pool terrace to its left. Opposite the main gateway is the ancient main house, accessed by a stone staircase that leads to an eastfacing covered terrace ideal for the best of French breakfasts. The terrace, called a ‘bolet’, in Occitan the old local language, has two entrances that open into the sitting room and kitchen and is the central focus of the house. Les Clauzades is a 17th century maison de maitre, which has been fully restored by the owners, but who have retained many of its original features. The main sitting room has a huge open fireplace, beautiful tapestries, and classical style furnishings. At the rear of the sitting room is a formal dining room area. Les Clauzades Vieilles is also a perfect place for holidays during colder months. Winters in the region are often mild and can produce lovely sunny days, but if it’s very cold the house is a perfect warm retreat, with the two-feet thick stone walls and roaring fires making it exceptionally cosy. The property would also be suitable for corporate or social events - the various activities at the house provide good team building exercises, an environment to encourage strategic thought, or simply relaxing with friends. A local French chef can be recommended for catering - for example for evening meals on the pool terrace. If you are interested in larger accommodation (to sleep 16) this House can also be rented with a Gite that sleeps 4 for an additional cost (if available on selected dates). If you would like to view the Gite it is listed as a separate accommodation under this owner. The Gite has a separate entrance, driveway/parking, garden and so if it is rented separately to other guests they are completely separate from the Main House and are not able to use the facilities of the Main House (eg Pool, Tennis Court, gardens etc). However if you wish to rent the Gite as an extension for your group then an interconnecting gate can be opened between the two properties. Corporate events etc may be considered. Guests have private access to all facilities including the house, gardens, swimming pool, tennis court and other facilities like the outdoor chess, darts, table tennis, boules, sandpit etc Owners don't live on site as they are based in the UK but there are local French guardians who look after the house and will welcome you to the property. They are available as required and will visit the house in any case to check the pool and do a mid-week clean of the house. Les Clauzades Vieilles is situated along its own access road 2 kms from the small village of Saux and 7km from Richard the Lionheart bastide town of Tournon d'Agenais where you will find a small supermarche, butcher, baker, bank, chemist etc. The whole area is beautiful with many stunning medieval hill-top towns nearby and lots of superb restaurants and lovely places to visit. There are also lots of activities in the area; water park, canoeing, golf, cycling etc. The nearest major towns are Cahors and Villeneuve-sur-Lot. Cahors: The capital city of the Lot. An ancient Roman settlement, it was once one of Europe’s main centres of banking, but now sleeps quietly beneath the magnificent 14th century towers of its world famous bridge, the Pont Valentre. Home to the ‘wine of Czars and Popes’, the ‘Vin Noir’, of Vin de Cahors, it has a charming town centre, famous market and a unique medieval cathedral. Close to local vineyards, guests can enjoy wine tasting, excellent local cuisine, peaceful walks and a multitude of local fetes and festivities. Further details can be found at the house or by asking the owner. Nearest airports are Bergerac (75 minutes) & Toulouse (90 minutes). The nearest railway stations are Toulouse, Cahors, Agen. You will need a car to get around - these can be rented at the airports/railway stations. For the pricing certain months are cheaper than others depending on the season, also better deals available if staying a full week to promote longer stays; We accept 3 night minimum stays and if you have any questions then feel free to get in touch. Prices are per week, for Saturday to Saturday rental in pounds sterling although we will consider arrivals/departures on other days particularly outside of July & August. Arrival after 4pm, and departure by 10am unless arranged otherwise with the owners. Each bedroom has a portable fan and the top two bedrooms in the Grenier have their own air conditioning units. The rest of the house remains cool in the heat of summer due to the thick stone walls and shutters. As a general rule we do not accept dogs but will make exceptions for well-behaved dogs and responsible owners so long as the dogs: don't bark a lot, do not go on furniture (chairs and sofas) or beds, do not go in the swimming pool. Obviously we also expect dog owners to pick up their dog mess from around the gardens.
