Kingley's Room
Kingsley’s Room located within Joy’s House will hopefully be a home away from home to you. Built in the early 50s, this manor house consists of four spacious and private rooms, situated close to the Kalutara beach and town. Staying at Kingsley’s Room, you will get to enjoy the greater comforts of Joy’s House, which feature beautiful private gardens, swimming pool, badminton court, table tennis table, pool table, laundry facilities, free WiFi and dining facilities with breakfast included. Kingsley’s Room is an air conditioned room with a double bed, and has an ensuite bathroom and shower facilities. Joy’s house is set in a half acre of land, giving its visitors ample garden space to the front and rear. The interior is typically Sri Lankan with sprawling inter-connected rooms that welcome visitors instantly. The house is presented exactly as it was enjoyed and lived by the family, who uses it as a holiday home now. Downstairs there are two living rooms, a formal dining room that showcases an array of family photographs which tells its own story, a breakfast area and a library. For your relaxation and entertainment, there is swimming pool, professional sized pool table, badminton court, table tennis table and a piano. Upstairs via the curving staircase, one would find a large TV lounge and a spacious sitting area with free tea/coffee making facilities. We would love to help you explore the surrounding area and the following activities can be arranged upon request: -Visit to the iconic Kalutara Buddhist Temple – this is the only one of its kind in Sri Lanka where one can walk inside the Dagoba – free entrance (2 minutes) -Kalutara Beach (10 minutes) -Water sports such as jet skiing, paramotoring, water skiing in Bentota (25 minutes) - note: transport can be arranged for a fee -A boat ride on the Kalu Ganga (river) - one of the largest rivers in Sri Lanka and that which gave Kalutara its name; meaning ‘by the banks of the Kalu ganga’ (5 minutes) -Visit to the ‘Richmond Castle’ – a former manor house that is now a property of the National Trust (10 minutes) – note: a small entrance fee applies -Visit to a rubber plantation and factory (30 minutes) - note: transport can be arranged for a fee -Toddy tapping (tapping the flowers of the coconut tree to collect the sap which is left to ferment and then made into the local alcoholic drink) (10 minutes) -Visit to ‘Brief Estate’; beautiful gardens and residence of Bevis Bawa, the famous horticulturist and internationally renowned landscape architect from Sri Lanka (30 minutes) – note: an entrance and transport fee applies -A day trip to the Galle Fort (40 minutes) (Can’t miss it!) – note: transport can be arranged for a fee Transport for all of the above can be organised free of charge (unless stated otherwise above), so please don’t hesitate to ask. Joy’s house is situated just five minutes from the bus and Kalutara South railway terminals. In a tuk tuk, it would be just two minutes!
