Annunziata in Castiglione del Terziere, Bagnone, this charming historical residence is well placed in the middle of the green hills of Lunigiana. THE RESIDENCE The present historical residence Il Monastero, is the result of an accurate and just right restoration of the former convent of SS: Annunziata, originally built in 1501 by the monks of the Order of Servizi di Maria. In the early 1700, the ownership of the Convent was acquired by the Family Mazzini Turriani, representatives of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany. The building was turned into the Family residence. During the six year period which lasted the works of the restoration, a significant amount of works of art and documents of relevant historical and cultural importance were found, gathered and collected. At present, the historical residence features 14 guest rooms, all furnished with period pieces of furniture all rich of historical memories. It also features comfortable rooms to provide our guests with moments of total relax Upon arrangements with the Management, it is possible to organize meetings, events and banquets. The nearby Church, originally the Natività di Maria, later changed in SS. Annunziata, is still keeping a painted portrait of the Holy Virgin dating back to 1300. This portrait is still the object of profound devotion by the local people. The fantastic location of Il Monastero allows a full view of the Lunigiana area and the medieval village of Castiglione del Terziere characterized by its ancient Castle. The residence is surrounded by acres of green-land rich in springs, a wide variety of autochthonous plants and wonderful olive groves. THE FARM The area farmed by “Azienda Agricola Lunigiana” (the agricultural company) extends over approx 10 hectares in the surrounding hills nearby the residence. The environment as a whole, is still unspoilt. The company has made the choice to respect the old farming tradition and has selected to grow the products that are typical of the Lunigiana area: olives, grapes, traditional fruits and vegetables. The company has its own registered mark “I Frutti della Luna” (the Moon’s Fruits) that characterizes its own products: jams, preserve fruits and vegetables, extra virgin olive oil (the: Olio della Luna) THE CELLAR The Lunigiana area is located at the cross road of three different regions (Tuscany, Liguria and Emilia Romagna) and therefore, of three different cultures. The essence of these cultures and the techniques of producing wine are very well represented by the products produced locally and labelled in Lunigiana. For our in-house collection to serve our customers, we have selected the wines produced by Villa di Negro, a winery located in Bagnone. In our opinion, the wines from Villa di Negro are the perfect partners for the locally grown produces and really suitable to accompany the food prepared following the traditional local recipes. It’s worth noting that in Bagnone traces of certain antique French grapevines (cabernet) were found and selected to produce the red “Piccol Rosso”, a very well built wine with a pleasant fruity and spicy aftertaste. Another wine from this winery is the “Barzamino”, a softly built and fruity red wine very tasty DESCRIPTION This historical property set in a privileged position on the Magra Valley between Liguria and Tuscany. The beaches of Liguria as well as Tuscany and the Cinque Terre villages are easily accessible from here.
