Les Trois Petits Cochons is located on a domain of half a hectare of wild flower meadow on a forest edge. It is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the slower pace in this unspoilt southern French region. There is a large covered private terrace and garden with spectacular views, including the Montségur on the last Cathar stronghold. From this terrace you can see how in the evening the sun disappears behind the immense peaks and the sky turns pink. Come on in Everything about the house breathes our preference for natural: on the floor is cork, the staircase is made beautiful wooden planks and the balustrade is realized from oak bark trees from the forest behind the house. Some of the furniture is made by hand. To also enjoy the spectacular view inside, the gîte has large windows on all sides. This gives a pleasant light. Each room has a view of the beautiful surroundings. The layout On the ground floor there is a spacious bedroom with two single beds, a bathroom with shower and bath, washbasin and toilet, a well-equipped kitchen (with fridge, 4-burner stove, combi oven / microwave, coffee maker and kettle). The dining area can accommodate 4 people. The comfortable sitting room has a corner sofa, radio / CD player. The light and spatial character of the house is emphasized by a void. To sleep The two spacious bedrooms can accommodate a family of four. There is a double bed, two single beds and possibly a place for a baby bed. Naturally, the bedrooms have a window that can be opened. The rooms are conveniently located and maintain a pleasant temperature in the summer months. Upon arrival you will find your bed made. The covered terrace offers a breathtaking view over the valley and the Pyrenees, so that you are not only private, but also dry. There are so many walks to choose from directly from the front door. The GR07 also runs nearby. From the cottage, for example, you descend to the river where you can not only swim, but also rock climbing at different levels. This is the area for spotting animals - from foxes to otters. In the spring months you will find many rare wild orchids, in the autumn there is a lot of toads. This environment is popular with cyclists. It is not for nothing that this area is a regularly returning guest in the Tour de France course. This region is perfect for excursions, such as to Foix or Toulouse or to one of the many castles or caves. Immediate vicinity Besides peace and quiet you are also in no time in the beautiful medieval town of Mirepoix (13km), where the Monday morning market is a real experience full of local products. For your bread you can go to Les Halles in Léran (4 km). In this market hall you can buy fresh bread daily and - depending on the day - also other local products (vegetables, meat, eggs, fish). In the neighborhood there are several restaurants that we can recommend. For larger groceries, there are several supermarkets in Mirepoix as well as in Laroque d'Olmes. Every Friday morning there is a large market in Lavelanet (13 km). Lac Montbel Do you want a 'beach day' then you can go to the sandy beach of Lac Montbel (4km) with pedaloes, kayaks, canoes and surfboards or lac Puivert (20min.). You will also find an eatery at both locations. The beautiful Lac Montbel just a 5 minute drive has a sandy beach, restaurant, plenty of shade and a lifeguard in July and August. It is an ideal place for a summer swim and then enjoy a drink at the terrace where you can regularly listen to live music in the summer months. You can also walk around the lake (around 16km). On the side of Montbel there is a second beach (pebbles) with a bar and a beautiful view. Water bikes can be rented at both locations. The lake is home to an organic trout farm and the local sailing club. Just 20 minutes away is another beautiful lake Lac Puivert. It is very popular with families with small children and has a playground and a café. RELAXING AT THE RIVER (within walking distance) The river Touyre is a 20-minute walk or a few minutes by car.
