With spacious rooms and private pool, this is a good opportunity to experience a summer holiday in one of the loveliest villages in Tuscany. Casa Massimo is 3 minutes walk from the centre of the medieval walled village, Castiglione. There is a view of the ancient Castello from the edge of the beautiful garden. The property is the ground floor of a large house. There are 2 large bedrooms, one of which sleeps 3, and a large living room off the hall. There is a new bathroom and kitchen. The garden has mature plants and is shaded in places by fine trees. There is a 9 m private swimming pool with a depth of 1.4 m with graduated steps. There is a lovely rose covered pergola in the extended garden which Massimo invites his guests to use. Sometimes Massimo uses this space for BBQs for his guests and friends which is always a special experience. The owner, Massimo and his elderly mother, live discreetly in the apartment upstairs. His hospitality is excellent. He makes his own wine and fine preserves, oil and cheeses as well as having his chickens and an impressive vegetable garden. He is very generous with his guests, giving produce from his land. There is a restaurant and bar within a minutes walk from the villa. An excellent shop/bar, where you can buy decent wine on draft and excellent local produce, is 5 minutes walk We can help arrange mountain biking, hill walking, horse riding, gorge walking and cooking classes which are all available locally. Castiglione is one of the main villages of the spectacularly beautiful area known as the Garfagnana, arguably the most beautiful part of all Tuscany. The area is mountainous and boasts some of the best produce available in Tuscany. Nearby to the walled art city of Lucca and also other famous attractions such as the devils bridge. This area is still largely undiscovered by tourists so it is a fantastic place to visit to experience the best and true culture of Tuscany. Castiglione is one of the 'Borghi pui Belli di'Italia' (most beautiful villages list). Garfagnana: Garfagnana is 'Hidden Tuscany' at its best. With its stunning scenery it is the best area in Tuscany for walking and outdoor activities. We have close ties with an outdoor activities company who offer many international class adventures. Castelnuovo, the nearby market town, has many restaurants, cafes, bars, supermarkets and all other types of shops. There is a tourist information office and a weekly market selling a wide variety of fashion, household goods, flowers, fruit and vegetables. The famous town of Barga, is only 25 minutes away and Bagni di Lucca 45 minutes away. There are many other interesting villages and towns nearby. The famous walled art city of Lucca is 50 minutes by car or by train. Pisa is 1.5 hours by car or train. This is where the nearest airport is. The Cinque Terre and Florence are both 2 hours respectively. We provide detailed information on the area, can recommend car hire and also provide you with a taxi number for an 8 seater taxi. We do recommend that our guests hire a car as like most places in Tuscany, it is a rural area with a rural bus service. However, it is not absolutely necessary at this house because there are good amenities in the village.
