My Victorian home, is in a quiet residential street, with excellent access to London’s West End (theatre and shopping), the City (financial centre) and Tower Bridge, the Tower of London and to Victoria (for Buckingham Palace and links to the main museums). Docklands and Canary Wharf are just a few stops on the DLR; the City is 8 minutes away; West End 15 minutes and Victoria 20 minutes. Historic Greenwich is "next door" - either a very nice walk or a few minutes on the bus or DLR. The O2 Arena is a just one short bus ride away. Lovely quiet garden for relaxing at the end of the day, or taking your morning coffee. (A river flows at the bottom of the garden where you can sometimes spot a Kingfisher – in the middle of London!). In the summer there is usually a 5 person hammock for you to relax in! Free fast WiFi. Parking is possible, but requires a permit - please request in advance of arrival. It is also possible to rent a bicycle from me or it may be possible to arranged with local bike shop. Guests are welcome in the main kitchen & dining room at any time to eat, hang out or prepare cold food or use the microwave, toaster or kettle. Lovely view onto the garden. Guests can use the fridge in the kitchen or the one just outside their room. You are welcome to use the kitchen and dining room, put things in the fridge, and and use the toaster, kettle and microwave, but guests are not able to use the other kitchen appliances. There is also a kettle in your room and an extra fridge and microwave on the hall landing just outside your room. The dining room is light and airy, with french doors onto the garden. Guests often use this space to just sit or to surf the internet. The garden is a lovely haven, especially in the summer - see photos and comments from previous guests. You are also welcome to use the washing machine. I live in the house, on my own, and I am always happy to help with local information and advice on travel and all the touristy and not touristy stuff to do. You can be both quiet and private here or sociable and enquiring. What is important is that you feel comfortable. Quiet, friendly with lots of shops and restaurants for all your needs. And of course, the great train service from Lewisham station into all central areas of London. Frequent and (for London) late running trains from (and returning to) Lewisham Station (Zone2). Trains take 7-10 minutes to get to the City, 15 minutes to get to the West End (Shops and theatre and Trafalgar Square), 20 minutes to Victoria - near the Natural History, Science and Victoria & Albert Museums. Lewisham is one of the main public transport hubs of London with quick, easy access to the West End and all tourist destinations. Often ignored because it is not on the standard underground map, the mainline National Rail train service is faster, cleaner and nicer than the underground, and it is included on all tickets and Oyster Cards: 8 minutes from Lewisham to London Bridge and the City area 16 minutes from Lewisham to Charing Cross, central London – West End Theatres, Trafalgar Square etc. 20 minutes to Victoria - near the Natural History, Science and Victoria & Albert Museums A few stops on the Dockland Light Railway (DLR) to Canary Wharf and Docklands area. Lewisham Station is 7 minutes walk from the house. The station is on the border of Zone 2 and 3, which gives you the best of all worlds. So going into central London you are only charged from Zone 2. But if you travel outwards (into Zone 3 or 4 or beyond) you will only be charged from Zone 3. Tourist and main destinations: - West End and Central London – Overground trains into the West End (theatres and shopping) are very frequent, take 16 minutes, and run until 1am. - London Bridge for the Tower of London, Tower Bridge, The Shard, St Katherines Dock and The City (financial district), take 8 minutes. - Greenwich – 5 mins on the bus or DLR. Or you can do a lovely walk from the house in 25 minutes! Greenwich is one of the most popular tourist destinations in London, with it’s markets, Royal park, Royal Observatory, Cutty Sark boat and Maritime Museum. From Greenwich pier you can take a boat trip on the Thames river into London, passing under London’s iconic Tower Bridge or the other way to the Thames Barrier. - ExCel exhibtion centre – 25 mins on DLR and Underground or a more interesting route would be bus and then over the river on the new high-flying Emirates Cable Car. - O2 Arena - 20-25 minutes by bus. Bus stop is 2 minutes from the house and the bus stops outside the Arena. Also possible via DLR and Underground service. (NOTE Lewisham and the DLR are shown on the standard London Underground maps, but these maps do not show the faster mainline National Rail service, because it makes the maps very big. You can find an Underground PLUS National Rail map online if you want to see everything that is included in London Transport)
