Westbury-sub-Mendip cottage magnificent views
Lovely sunny house in rural Somerset on the Mendip hills overlooking the amazing Somerset Levels with fantastic views from every room. My home is a character cottage, with a double bedroom and at a push a sofa bed in the living room with downstairs shower room in addition to the upstairs bathroom, making accessibility good. Situated equidistant from Wells and Cheddar, there is plenty to do in the area. The village has a shop, pub and a church. It is on a well served bus route. The cottage is south facing so very sunny! But for those cold days, there is a great stove in the living room and oil fired central heating throughout the house - it's toasty and cosy in the winter and cool and full of sunshine in the summer. The kitchen is equipped with a new double oven cooker, microwave, food mixer and dishwasher. There is a utility room off the kitchen for muddy boots and dog towels, with a washing machine and ceiling fitted airer - things tend to dry overnight as the oil boiler is also in this room. There are two toilets on the groundfloor and one upstairs. The living room has a music system, smart TV and DVD player. The large dining room (24 sq ft) was built a couple of years ago. It has an ample dining room table for long dinner chats. There are no curtains in this room yet I am afraid. The area has a lot to explore with the Mendip hills behind and wonderful walks, runs and cycle rides straight from the house. Wells if four miles away with a cinema and restaurants, and great country pubs in several of the nearby villages. Cheddar and the caves are four miles in the opposite direction from Wells. Wokey Hole is also nearby and there a huge range of artist's studios and small craft activities in the area. Glastonbury's iconic Tor can be seen from my kitchen, eight miles across the Somerset levels. It's a wonderful space to relax, walk, paint, eat, talk. Please come and enjoy it. Guests are welcome to use the double bedroom and common areas, sharing the house with me when I am there. You will have access to all the space except my bedroom which I occupy when there. I may or may not be available during your stay but will be on the end of the phone if needed and have a friend on hand who can be there in person if you need something urgently. I usually get in touch a couple of weeks beforehand to arrange the key collection and check if you need any more information. A beautiful rural location set between the Mendip Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the Somerset Levels, also a protected landscape. There are amazing walks over these landscapes peppered with archaeological sites and current farming activity. The sea at Clivedon is just over half an hour away with a wonderful outdoor swimming lake. There is also a swimming pool in Street and Wells which also has a public gym and sauna. The village has just over three hundred houses in it, many of them several hundred years old. Wells has all the essentials in it - shops, pubs and restaurants, medical centre. Bikes can be hired locally and there is also pony trekking nearby. Bristol and Bath are two fascinating cities, forty minutes away by car with good park and ride centres on the outskirts to save the traffic. Plenty of theatre, music, and shopping to be done in both distinct and historic cities. Bristol hosts the SS Great Britain the great grandmother of modern ships; Bath the famous spa and baths and of course tea at the elegant Pump rooms. There is parking off road for up to three cars with the cottage. Buses run through the village, into Wells and also into Weston Super Mare. There are buses from Wells to Bristol and Bath.
