FALL IN LOVE WITH THE MAGIC OF APRICALE: a medieval village rich with history, extraordinary people, fine cuisine, big entertainment, and a warm Italian heart. 🧡 A tranquil retreat, #CasaSullaPiazza overlooks the lush green valleys—uniquely located just steps off the vibrant piazza. With spa-inspired amenities and thoughtfully curated furnishings, our home of 800+ years artfully blends modern conveniences and ancient design with respect for nature's beauty and Apricale's rich history. OVERVIEW OF THE HOME Our "new" home is perched on a majestic forest hillside minutes above the Italian Riviera in an old, medieval castle village named Apricale, which means "visible to the sun." Literally located just a few steps down the cobblestone road from the vibrant town square piazza, our home has some breathtaking views of the lush green mountains and gardens. We have completely remodeled the interior, installed new modern appliances and spa-inspired amenities, and infused contemporary design elements juxtaposed against dramatic stone archways and rugged mountain boulders which the home was built around. It comfortably sleeps 4 with 2 in the bedroom suite and 2 on the fold-out bed in the living room sofa. He’s very well connected with the Apricalini, too! We can’t wait for you to meet him! Perched on a majestic forest hillside in the Italian Riviera is Apricale, a pristinely preserved jewel of medieval wonder and splendor. A visit to Apricale is like stepping back in time and into a real-life Disney fairytale land. With records dating back to 1092, Apricale is a pristinely preserved jewel of history. But what makes Apricale truly remarkable is the friendly, neighborly people who make this town of 600 a true community. We've made many good friends in the village we’d love for you to meet! OUR TOP-10 APRICALE ACTIVITIES Here are our favorite things to do in Apricale. #10: GETTING LOST in the labrinths of Apricale’s winding cobblestone streets (whether you intend to or not). #9: SHOPPING IN THE LOCAL STORES, like La Bottega delle Meraviglie, for unique and thoughtful gift ideas. #8: TASTING OLIVE OILS—which is totally a thing—particularly those grown from the Taggiasca olive orchards of Apricale, where the Strada dell’Olio begins. Who knew all olive oils were not created equal? #7: TOURING THE CASTELLO DELLA LUCERTOLA, learning about its rich French and Italian history from the museum docent, and soaking in the views from the rooftop gardens overlooking the town square. #6: SAVORING THE FINE WINES of the Ligurian region which easily give Tuscany a run for its money. This region of Liguria is famous for its rossese and vermentino varietals. #5: APPRECIATING THE DESIGNS like the medieval architecture and the arts and murals that adorn the village. #4: HIKING THE TRAILS along the mountains and taking a swim in the Fiume Nervia (river) running along the base of the Nervia Valley. #3: GUIDED TOUR OF APRICALE: Learn about the village’s rich—and sometimes disturbingly savage—history from city staff and gain access to some of the most precious, preserved monuments. Tours are available for groups of at least 4 people on Saturdays from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Be sure to book your reservations in advance. #2: ATTENDING EVENTS and live concerts that Apricale hosts throughout the year, especially the Teatro della Tosse in August. See the Apricale town website for the full list of upcoming events. #1: MEETING THE PEOPLE of Apricale and tourists from around the world, listening to their stories ripe with passion and fascination. You’ll find many other personal suggestions, including regional activities and dining “hot spots,” in the Houseguest Handbook, which you'll get access to upon booking your stay. LOCAL TRANSPORTATION • BY CAR: Rooted in 1092—nearly a millennium before the automobile—Apricale offers surprisingly convenient parking options. There are a few parking lots as well as street parking (parallel and perpendicular) along the perimeters of the village on Strada Provinciale 63 (SP63). Renting and driving a small rental car is recommended for convenience. (Apricale has a ton to offer, but there are many other nearby attractions to experience in which a car would come in handy.) • BY BUS: Bus service from Ventimiglia (including the Ventimiglia train station) to Apricale is available through Riviera Trasporti, Linea 7. See the Riviera Transporti website for the current schedule. • BY TAXI: Taxis can be arranged in advance for pick-up in Apricale, but they’re not on-demand like they are in larger cities. Ride-share services like Uber and Lyft are seldom available. • BY FOOT: Your feet will be your primary mode of transportation in the village of Apricale. Since you’ll be hoofin’ it around Apricale, a medieval castle village with roads (walkways) made of cobblestone, sensible, comfortable shoes or sneakers with good padding are highly recommended. After booking, check out the "Directions" section for regional transportation and helpful instructions for navigating to the region and the home, parking tips, and walking directions. • WALKING & LUGGAGE: Apricale is a beautiful, historic castle village situated on a steep hill. While there are many places to park a car, please expect a modest amount of walking up and down the cobblestone streets. • CAR PARKING: After you book your stay, we'll provide you with precise parking suggestions for convenient access to the home from your car—especially for bringing your suitcases to the home. • BUS SERVICE: Bus service from Ventimiglia (including the train station) to Apricale is available through Riviera Trasporti, Linea 7. • STAIRS: Our home is multi-level with staircases that connect the rooms. As such, we do not recommend our home to guests with small children or pets.
