The Byre
The Byre is a converted seventeenth century sandstone and timber stable and granary. We are situated on the biggest loop of the River Wye between the cathedral city of Hereford and its historic Mappa Mundi and the market town of Ross-On-Wye. It is an ideal base for fishing, walking, or canoeing. There is an excellent pub in Hoarwithy and less than three miles away are The Loughpool & Cottage of Content, both offering locally sourced fabulous fare. Please enquire first for 7+ night discounts. We moved in during 2016, and up until then the farm was an equestrian centre. We have completed quite a bit of the restoration and work on the farm buildings, but it's very much ongoing. The area is rural and quiet but is extremely beautiful and there are numerous walks from here. You could also choose to canoe to us from Hereford and then onto Ross-On-Wye over two days. You have access to all of the fields, gardens and the path running down to the River Wye. There is plenty of parking on site. Although we don't have a specific electric vehicle charging point, we do have an external socket which guests can use. We charge £8.50 for a full charge. Steve and I live on the farm with Steve's parents. There will always be someone around to help should you need it. Although we don't have any farm animals at present there is a very friendly cat, who does like to be entertained. Our neighbourhood is rural and beautiful. We have a racehorse trainer up the road who exercises her horses past the house most mornings. There is a village pub in Hoarwithy, serving food, local beer and cider less than 0.5 mile away. Less than three miles away are two inns which offer fabulous, locally sourced dishes. The locals are very friendly. Hereford, 9 miles away, is a busy cathedral city with its historic Mappa Mundi, many museums, lots of shops and cafes. Ross-on-Wye, 8 miles away, is a bustling market town with good independent shops, restaurants and cafes. Slightly further afield are the black and white towns of Ledbury, Leominster and Ludlow. You will ideally need a car to get around. However, there is a train station at Hereford and it is possible to get a local bus to Ross-on-Wye and then to us. It would need investigating, but it is possible! There are coaches that run from London, Gloucester and Cheltenham to Ross too. It is also possible to hire bikes.
