''Popular tourist destinations in Corinthia are Loutraki, St. Theodore, Xylokastro and Trikala of Korinthia where visitors can enjoy the beautiful landscape and the different alternative tourism activities such as mountaineering, water sports, 4x4 jeep routes, etc. In ancient times, Corinth (Korinthos) was one of the largest and wealthiest city-states in Greece, with two major ports, one on the Corinthian Gulf and one on the Saronic Gulf. Take the chance to visit: -The Lake Vouliagmenis, ‘’ one of the richest places in the prefecture of Korinthia is the lagoon of Vouliagmeni, known since antiquity as Eschatiotis. You will encounter the calm, crystal waters of the lagoon, admire the pine forests that reach down to the banks and the backdrop of the Gerania mountains that rise to its side. The water is salty, as the lagoon is connected with the Corinthian Gulf via a small channel through which the water is renewed. This channel is also the only entrance to the fishing boats of the area. The importance of the area has been understood since antiquity, as there are signs of habitation dating back to 3,000 BC, the time when the first settlements in Greece began to appear. Many visit the Lagoon of Vouliagmeni to enjoy the waters, engage in water sports, and watch the diving contests, but also to visit the tavernas of the area, that has seen great tourist development. (38km away from Rafaella Resort). -Within walking distance is Cape Heraion and the archaeological site of Heraion (Sanctuary of Hera) in Perachora with its lighthouse, beach and its famous sunset.’’ -‘’The Corinth Canal lies 20km from Rafaella Resort. The idea of building a canal through the Isthmus of Corinth (which connects the Peloponnese to the rest of Greece) was conceived by the tyrant Periander in the sixth century BC. However, it was only completed during the period (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) , after modern Greece gained independence. Involving an excavation up to 80 meters in depth, the canal is 6.3 kilometers long, 23 meters wide, and eight meters deep, and can take vessels of up to 10,000 tons. The best view of the canal is from the bridge, which carries the road over it. An interesting feature is the movable bridge at the northwest end, which can be sunk below the surface, allowing smaller ships and sailing boats to pass through (paying a hefty tariff). However, it is too narrow for larger ships’’. - ‘’Ancient Corinth is an important archaeological site, which has revealed many great finds. Once one of the most powerful cities of the Classical world, it came under Roman rule in 146 BC. It is here that St. Paul preached to the people of Corinth in AD (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) , and his experience later inspired him to write the New Testament books of the First Corinthians and Second Corinthians, among the most quoted books of the Bible. Today, amid the archaeological excavations, you can see the ruins of various buildings including temples, a forum, baths, and a basilica.’’ - Ancient Diolkos, an overland stone way used to transport ships fast between the Corinthian and Saronic Gulfs. Nowdays one can see parts of it next to Poseidonia bridge on the way from Loutraki to Corinth. -The imposing Doric Temple of Apollo, the most important monument in Ancient Corinth, lies on a low hill and dominates the site. The temple was built around 540 BC, on the site of an earlier seventh-century-BC temple. Today, only seven monolithic limestone columns remain, but originally there would have been six along the front and back of the temple, and fifteen down each side. - Acrocorinth (Akrokórinthos) lies 3.5 kilometers south of Ancient Corinth. The ascent to the top of this impressive fortified hilltop (575 meters) is made easier by a road, which climbs to a point near the lowest gate on the west side. Acrocorinth was fortified in ancient times, and its defences were maintained and developed during the Byzantine, Frankish, Turkish, and Venetian periods, so that its walls now measure almost two kilometers in length. Within the fortress, a path leads to the highest point, to the former Temple of Aphrodite, which was converted into a mosque by the Ottoman Turks in the 16th century. From here, there are fine views of the Isthmus and the hills of the Peloponnese. - Loutraki is a popular seaside resort. Home to natural thermal springs, the Loutraki Spa is recommended for disorders of the urinary tract, kidney stones, gallstones, and gout. The method of treatment is bathing and drinking. The old town of Loutraki was destroyed by an earthquake in (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) and today, it consists mainly of concrete hotels erected during the second half of the 20th century. -The Environment Museum of Stymphalia, whose aim is to show the interdependence of mankind and Nature, focuses on their harmonious coexistence in the Stymphalia basin. Its objective is to raise the public's ecological awareness and preserve the knowledge of the region's traditional technology. The Environment Museum of Stymphalia is located on the slope of one of the verdant hills surrounding Lake Stymphalia where, according to mythology, Hercules confronted and slew the Stymphalian birds. The first module of the Environment Museum of Stymphalia provides information on the region's environment and its importance. Stymphalia belongs to the European Network of Protected Areas NATURA (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) Lake Stymphalia and Mount Zireia are of great ecological value. They communicate through underground, as well as visible water routes, defining the aquatic basin of Stymphalia, the largest mountain lake of the Peloponnese. It also constitutes the southernmost mountain wetland of the Balkans, with rich flora and fauna. In the second module, you will discover how the region's environment influenced the development of human activity, and in particular that of traditional professions. In order to better understand the history, folklore and life in Stymphalia through the ages. In the Museum's interior, you have access to what, in Greece, is a unique exhibit: an open aquarium representing a cross-section of the lake, with live fish and plants of the region! Lastly, the Multipurpose Hall is used to host temporary exhibitions, organize events and develop cultural activities. Young visitors will enjoy getting into the rowing boat to see, close up, plants and fish of this wetland, which can be seen in the lake's cross-section in the Museum's interior. In parallel, they have the opportunity to see original models. Furthermore, the Museum's digital representations bring to life how the people lived in harmony with Nature, for thousands of years, around Lake Stymphalia. The Museum organizes educational programs with games and activities, for schools and group visits, such as the program «Secret games, in the lake's waters». Moving can be done by car or taxi. There is a beautiful pedestrian street alongside the beach for hiking or cycling The location of our accommodation is remarkable. Kokkoni Korinthias is a seaside area next to Vrachati and we could say that it is close to all the places you could visit. It is 10.7 km from the archaeological museum of Corinth, 11 km from Ancient Corinth, 13.8 km from the Observatory of Kryoneri, 7 km from Kiato and 20 km from Xylokastro. Also the center of Corinth is 15 km away, while the Isthmus of Corinth is at 18.5. The casino of Loutraki will be at 15.6 km.
