Description Views of the mountains are spectacular, making the studio an area of quiet rest. You may walk a few meters to sit on a rock to enjoy the view or sit at the table to read or write and still enjoy the view. This listing is a studio apartment near, but does not share, any common walls with the living area of our main home. NOTE: PLEASE BE ADVISED that the Trail of 100 Giants is always closed if therei is snow at elevation. I can't promise this, but I went out tonight and saw a large buck eating in our yard. There was a rabbit, quail, robins, scrub jays, and lots of coyote scat. Not your usual experience at a rental, most likely! We can't promise you this experience, but we can promise relative quiet and spectacular views, a comfy bed, and an experience to remember. The studio is completely on its own. You will have a bedroom with a table and chairs for dining, reading, writing, or simply looking at the sunset on the far mountains. There is a separate bathroom with a sink and shower, as well as a kitchen with a microwave, sink, all dishes and utensils, teas selection, and a coffee-maker with coffee. We have enjoyed guests from many countries, and really enjoy sharing our part of the world, including our patio, if you wish. There is a small private patio attached to the studio with chairs and a drinks table. Please feel completely free to knock on one of our many doors if you need something, or just wish to get to know us better! Neighborhood The studio feels like a world away, but is only five minutes from the center of town. There are hiking paths out the door that you will enjoy. We are visited by deer, bobcats, foxes at night, and all manner of wildlife if we are quiet, as we are a mile from the village of Kernville and a thousand feet higher. In town there is a Craft Brewery, (Kern River Brewing Company), which has two distinct locations, and the music, when COVID will allow again, is excellent. There are Italian, pizza, Mexican, burgers, a deli and a great coffee bar called the Big Blue Bear, which also serves food. The Kern River Runs Through It, the town, that is, and it can be hairy whitewater in the spring and mild tubing fun later on, with many places to picnic. There is a local park on the river, and its always cooler there, even if the temperature is in the 90s. We have a museum (open Thursday through Sunday, 11 to 3) which is ever expanding, showing the history of the many movies that were filmed here in Kernville as well as geological artifacts, the history of the Edison hydroelectric plants, and some local Indian artifacts, and a store. We are five hours from Yosemite; four and a half from Las Vegas; a little over three hours from Death Valley; six from San Francisco; three from LA, and a mere hour from the Trail of 100 Giants (Please note that the Trail is closed in winter). We are minutes from parking for any number of lovely hikes, some with relatively secluded pools (Bull Run Trail). Just ask us. We have rafting, biking, and kayaking outfitters in our mountain tourist town, so you can find what you need here. Book in advance at Sierra South or Mountain and Rivers for rafting the Kern River in Spring or early summer! We are a little more than a mile from the village of Kernville, up a winding one-lane mountain road, allowing us to tell you with all honesty that the views are quite spectacular. The road is paved, and we will give you specific directions so you can easily find us! You can be as quiet or active as you would like. Kernville is a tourist town, so there are many things to do on the weekends, but here on the Mountain, it is quiet. We have notes on hiking trails in the studio, but if you want our take on the trails, don't hesitate to ask.
