Your home away from home is a comfortable, self-contained, fully-appointed flat on the ground floor of a two story home with its own private entrance and large patio. Cafés, restaurants, shops, an arthouse cinema, train station, bus stop and parks are all within 5 minutes leisurely walk. The Brisbane CBD is only 15-20 minutes by train. Ample on-street parking. Solar power, solar hot water, natural, non-toxic (zero VOC) materials, finishes and furnishings throughout. The internal living space is 55sqm comprising two decent sized bedrooms (one with a queen bed, the other with a single bed), one bathroom (with shower), living room, and kitchen/dining room. Each room has a powerful, effective ceiling fan. The bedrooms have ample storage for suitcases and clothes. The space has polished wooden floors throughout and is tastefully furnished and decorated in a modern country style. Your private covered patio is 40sqm and a great place to chillax in the semi-outdoors. The house is 100% powered by solar energy, was fully renovated in 2010 with passive solar design in mind, and we’ve used eco-friendly materials where possible (zero VOC paints, locally sourced solid wood rather than formaldehyde-containing MDF, natural rather than synthetic fibers etc). It’s eco-friendly, but still retains the old-world charm and character of the original 1930s home. You have access to the downstairs flat and patio. Feel free to explore the garden beyond, although it’s currently very much a work in progress. We try to grow some of our own organic vegetables and fruits, so you’re welcome to harvest a portion of whatever’s ripe and tasty looking. The adjacent garage and upstairs home are private areas. Although friendly and welcoming, we’re rather private people and will respect your space and privacy, as I’m sure you’ll endeavour to respect ours. However, if you need assistance with anything you’re very welcome to pop upstairs or give us a call - one of us is often home or not far away. If you see us pottering around in the garden, or receive a visitation from our curious black cat Gracie, then feel free to say hi. Graceville is a safe, leafy green suburb in the “Goldilocks zone” of Brisbane - at 8 km from the CBD it’s close enough to all the amenities, culture and action of the city, yet somewhat isolated in a pocket of suburbia with a village atmosphere. It’s a protected heritage suburb with many renovated “timber and tin” Queenslander style homes built in the pre-1945 era. Our home is situated in the centre of Graceville, close to the train station, bike paths, the river, parks, shops, an art-house cinema, sporting venues, great restaurants and cafés. With the train station just a short walk down the road, and air-conditioned electric trains departing regularly, you’re only 15 minutes from the heart of Brisbane and 30 minutes to the airport. Taxis and buses provide alternative access to regions of the city not serviced by trains. Ample on-street, free parking is available for guests with a car. Our street is also part of a major bicycle route that connects to the Brisbane CBD and the University of Queensland at St Lucia. If you’re planning on exploring the region, the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coasts are just over an hour’s drive from here. Restaurants, cafés, cinema, shops, medical … 100-500m Graceville Train Station … 300m Sherwood Arboretum … 1km Indooroopilly Shopping Centre … 2km Corinda Pool … 3km Brisbane Markets at Rocklea (every Saturday and Sunday) … 3km QLD Tennis Centre (venue for Brisbane International) … 3km Oxley Golf Course … 4km St Lucia Golf Course … 4km University of Queensland St Lucia Campus … 5km Brisbane CBD … 8km Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary 8km Mt Coot-tha Botanic Gardens … 8km Mt Coot-tha Summit Lookout … 11km Mt Glorious / Mt Nebo … 45km Mt Tamborine … 70km Gold Coast … 70km Sunshine Coast … 90km Toowoomba … 115km Our home is across the road from a train line. Although most of the trains are of the quieter electric variety (rather than noisy diesel) and we are accustomed to them, some guests may find the noise they make a little more distracting. Once a month or so, an historic steam train chugs past during the day and that is a bit noisier, but in a good way - if you’re lucky enough to hear it coming, get outside quick and check it out! Kaja is also a professional opera singer and will occasionally rehearse upstairs. Although the flat itself is downstairs and there is some sound insulation between floors, her trained voice will carry. The garden is a work in progress - it’s aspirational, not yet inspirational!
