The cottage is in the heart of the Langdale Valley, in the centre of the Lake District National Park. It is the perfect base for families and groups looking for high quality self-catering accommodation. The traditional 19th C property has been extended to take advantage of its elevated position and uninterrupted views down the valley. It has been renovated throughout and guests can enjoy it’s modern interior and facilities in this traditional cottage which now has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. The house has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms (4 of the rooms are ensuite and there is one twin room with a separate family bathroom). There are 2 pull out beds and 2 travel cots available as well. There is a large open plan living/kitchen/dining room which is great for socialising and get togethers with family and friends. The large dining table seats 10+ and the patio doors from the living room open up on to a balcony with views of the Langdale Pikes. There is a separate snug downstairs with a tv and dvd player. The house has 4 passes to the Langdale Leisure Club which is about 1 mile down the road. The house is let on a whole house basis. Chapel Stile is a small village about 5 miles north west of Ambleside and boasts the key elements for a village – a shop, pub, café and church. You may not need to go any further although if you want to explore other local villages and towns Ambleside, Hawkshead, Grasmere, Coniston and Windermere are only a few miles away. The shop is well stocked with essentials, local farm produce and all sorts of odds and ends and the café, Brambles, is located above it. The excellent pub, Wainwright’s Inn, offers a warm welcome with its roaring fires, tasty food and wide range of beer on tap. The village of Elterwater is approximately 15 minutes’ walk where there is another first class pub – The Brittania Inn, which serves food and a café. The breath taking Langdale Valley runs from Ambleside to the imposing Langdale Pikes (peaks) and is flanked by Crinkle Crags and Bowfell Pike. It offers great walking and mountain biking at both high and low levels. Lots of walks can be started from the door of the cottage or are a short car or bus ride away; the Ambleside Rambler bus runs past the cottage. The impressive waterfall, Dungeon Ghyll, can be reached by a hike from Stickle Ghyll car park. Being in the centre of the National Park, the cottage is a great base for exploring further afield if you want to. Beyond enjoying the great outdoors here are a few tasters of what else is on offer: Castlerigg stone circle above Keswick to the north gives a taste of the area’s ancient history. Boat trips can be taken on various lakes. Whinlatter and Grizedale Forests offer purpose built mountain bike trails, Go Ape and other family activities in the forest. You can learn more about some of the Lake District’s literary history at Dove Cottage (former home of William Wordsworth) or the Beatrix Potter Gallery in Hawkshead. There are numerous eateries offering fantastic food – the Drunken Duck is not too far away near Hawkshead and Cartmel is home to the Michelin starred L’Enclume as well as the famous sticky toffee pudding!
