Pool Cottage in Historic Old Town Beaumont

[Please note: no pets, no smoking. Prices are as shown here. We don’t rent monthly or lease.] This cozy space is perfect for traveling workers, families, or just passing through town. We're centrally located, a quick drive from anywhere in Beaumont (including Lamar and both hospitals). The neighborhood is quiet and is known for its historic homes and beautiful old trees. The main house (where we live) and this apartment (above our detached garage) were built in 1926, during the height of Beaumont's boom from the oil and lumber industry. It boasts a full kitchen, 9-foot ceilings, original hardwood floor, and a full bathroom with a tall-person-friendly shower. It also opens up to a private deck overlooking the back yard and pool. Other amenities include fast wifi, cable TV, driveway parking, and a dedicated washer/dryer. A number of great local restaurants are a quick stroll or drive away. Please note that this is a "studio" apartment, so as you can see in the photos, the bedroom *is* the living room, and both beds (the full and the twin pull-out) are in that room. You can come and go as you wish, and we provide self-checkin (the door uses a key code, so there are no keys to keep track of). Guests have full use of the spacious saltwater pool anytime, 24/7. It's unheated, so it's only swim-ready during the warm months. Guests also have a dedicated washer and dryer downstairs from the apartment. We live on the property (in the main house) and work from home, so we're almost always a quick text or knock away if you have any questions. We're also happy to give tips for museums, galleries, restaurants, and other fun things to do in Beaumont! The Oaks Historic District is well-known for its large shade trees and its variety of restored homes built between 1890 and 1940. There are two museum homes within walking distance (the McFaddin-Ward and Chambers House). There are also a number of restaurants within a half-mile walk--local eateries like Rosie's, Rao's Bakery, and Tacos La Bamba, and chains like Dunkin' Donuts and Jack in the Box. Beaumont has a city bus system, but Uber or Lyft are better options. We are about a mile from the Beaumont Amtrak station, about 5 miles from the nearest Greyhound station, and about 15 minutes from the Jack Brooks Regional Airport (BPT). The TV has cable channels (Sling), local channels, Netflix, Disney+, and Amazon Prime. You can also log in with your own streaming accounts. There is a full-sized bed and a love seat with a pull-out twin bed. We allow up to three guests, since that's theoretically possible and plenty of guests have done so, but in practice, the room comfortably sleeps 1-2. Two other important notes about the beds: • A "full" bed (aka "double") is a cozy fit for two people if you're more accustomed to a queen or king. It has a fairly new, medium-firm, two-layer hypoallergenic memory foam mattress. • With the twin pulled out of the love seat, space is tight! Please don't expect to do that and also have room for a pack-and-play, inflatable bed, etc. Please understand that while Beaumont is small, it *is* still a city, and we have no control over the railroad (3/4 of a mile away), neighborhood dogs, the interstate (1/2 mile away), or the neighbor who has a rooster. Most guests aren't bothered, especially over the normal din of the air conditioner, etc., but if you're a light sleeper, please plan ahead and bring your white noise machine or whatever else you usually use to get your rest. If any noise is distracting you, we provide comfy disposable earplugs in the medicine cabinet. To maximize space, we stock baby-related amenities on request rather than storing them in the apartment.
