Enjoy staying in our peaceful orchard garden with views over beautiful Trethem valley. This is a peaceful and private garden shared with our chickens and ducks. Spectacular scenery, sunrises & sunsets in rolling countryside in a hidden, unspoilt corner of Cornwall on the stunning Roseland Peninsula, a short stroll from the water. Under 2miles from the picturesque seaside resort of St Mawes. Self-catering facilities inc logburner, shower & proper loo, electric, fridge, oven & gas BBQ. Shepherd’s Delight is a beautiful space we’ve created with a pretty custom-made shepherd’s hut designed to offer all your home comforts together with the charm and fun of a traditional shepherd’s hut. The hut is beautifully situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. You’ll probably arrive via the historic King Harry chain-link Ferry. Once here you’ll enjoy stunning views of the rolling Cornish countryside and surrounding farmland. The hut is uniquely positioned so you can enjoy uninterrupted views of both the sunrise and the sunset (if you’re up early enough!). Red sky in the morning – shepherd’s warning; red sky at night – shepherd’s delight! (Hence the name!) Relax and enjoy total peace and tranquillity bar the occasional squawking seagull, clucking chicken, quacking duck or passing tractor. A 1 minute stroll up the public footpath offers a 360 degree panorama to appreciate the sheer beauty of the location with breath-taking views of the River Fal, the sea, the charming port of Falmouth, the sailing village of Mylor across the water to the west and the rolling countryside all around. The deck is a wonderful spot for spotting wildlife. Deer, birds of prey, owls and bats are often seen. At night the rural location means the starry skies on a clear night are amazing! Before we were lucky enough to move to Cornwall we holidayed here many times and we’ve tried to create a place we’d have loved to have stayed in. We’ve tried to think of everything you’ll need to enjoy a relaxing, super-comfortable and enjoyable stay. We’ve tried to strike the perfect balance between rural, rustic charm and little touches of luxury. The facilities of the hut include: • Double bed with super comfy mattress and cotton linen • A cosy sofa • Log burner with cooking plate to keep you extra toasty and cosy on cool evenings. • Full ‘traditional’ mains water toilet and shower facilities within the shepherd’s hut – and cotton towels. • Mains electricity – enabling cosy lighting, modern kitchen facilities and charging for any tech / gadgets • Wi-Fi • The hut is fully insulated so is warm and cosy in all weathers • The hut is tastefully decorated in Farrow and Ball paint with Orla Kiely curtains. • Storage space for suitcases / bags and hanging rail, iron and hair dryer under the bed. • Kitchen facilities: o Cooking is up to you – inside there’s a mini oven with grill and hob or outside there’s a choice of a gas barbecue ( and a mini charcoal one to take to the beach for a beach barbie) o The kitchen is fully equipped including a vintage whistling kettle and all the pots, pans, cutlery, plates, mugs and glasses you’ll need to cook up a feast or rustle up some drinks. o A spacious fridge (with small freezer compartment) is provided together with a vintage cool box and cool blocks for picnics. • An authentic tin roof adds a traditional charm and a lovely cosy sound when we get the odd rain shower! • A secure off-road parking space is provided on our drive to the front of the cottage. • Outside there is an elevated decking area equipped with a gas BBQ and bistro table and chairs for al fresco drinks and dining within the pretty Cornish cottage garden. • The decking benefits from the morning sunrise and the last of the sun in the evening including some lovely sunsets. The hut is located in the orchard garden of our little Cornish Cottage between fruit trees and wandering chickens and ducks. You’ll enjoy your own separate space on the elevated decking area to enjoy the warm Cornish sunshine and breath-taking views. Please feel free to use the grassed area which is shared with our pet chickens and ducks. We love where we live and are delighted to be able to share this beautiful place with you. Our thinking is to leave you to it to relax and enjoy yourselves. However, should you have any problems please contact us via Airbnb. We may be around in our part of the garden and will be popping in to check on the chickens & ducks each day but we will make sure we don’t disturb you. We have created a guidebook on Airbnb for the surrounding area which we hope you will find useful. If you’ve never been to this part of Cornwall before you’ll wonder why not! Just don’t tell too many people about it! The Roseland Peninsula is something of a hidden gem in the Cornish Riviera. We’re fairly off the beaten track compared to the mass tourism hotspots and the Roseland is wonderfully unspoilt and peaceful. Even in peak season it’s always easy to find your own corner of peace and quiet and there’s generally always plenty of room on our stunning beaches. Take a look through the photographs to get an idea of the beautiful places that’ll be on your hut-step to explore. St Just in Roseland itself is very quiet. Not a lot goes on here. And that’s the way we like it! Just sit back, relax and enjoy the scenery! When you’re ready to explore St Just has a famous 13th Century church set above the tidal creek of St Just Pool with a beautiful churchyard and gardens luxuriantly planted with sub-tropical plants. The tranquillity of the gardens of St Just in Roseland are a delight. Explore the winding paths through the bamboos, follow the running stream down to the creek and pause by the Holy Well. Beautiful views lead the eye over to the boatyard or back towards the church. It was described by John Betjeman as ‘to many people the most beautiful churchyard on earth’. There’s a tea room which does refreshments and amazing cakes and Cornish cream teas (jam first of course!) A 1 minute stroll up the public footpath offers a 360 degree panorama to appreciate the sheer beauty of the location with breath-taking views of the River Fal, the sea, the charming port of Falmouth, the sailing village of Mylor across the water to the west and the rolling countryside all around. St Mawes is a small fishing village turned fashionable little seaside resort nestled at the very end of the Roseland peninsula. Surrounded by the sea and gentle hills, St Mawes is quite spectacular! St Mawes, and other villages on the Roseland, such as Portloe, Portscatho and Portholland, have to be some of the most exclusive waterside villages within Cornwall. Of course being right on the seafront these villages are also a haven for the gastro enthusiast, with restaurants and pubs serving up superb fish and shellfish dishes all year round as well as the more traditional dishes. Being positioned within the Gulf Stream, the climate in St Mawes and on the Roseland Peninsula is very mild all year round and during the summer temperatures can reach that of the Mediterranean, as a result there are beautiful semi-tropical local gardens throughout the Roseland with exquisite fauna and flora. St Mawes benefits from lush turquoise blue calm waters which are ideal for swimming, inflatables, paddle boarding, kayaking and sailing. There are 2 great fun diving platforms to swim out to and take the plunge! And when you’ve worked up an appetite there’s usually plenty of room on one of the beaches for a beach barbecue! The King Harry Ferry is really cool and a great fun way to cut the journey time from the mainland. Incredibly, a ferry has operated from this site for more than 500 years! The “new” ferry is the 7th to operate a vehicle service since the King Harry Ferry was established in 1888. If you’re staying a while invest in a Mussel Card (no Oyster Cards down here!) which makes the crossing cheaper and is valid on all of the Fal River boat trips. Further info can be found in our guidebook which is linked to our listing. • We’re beautifully located at the heart of the stunning Roseland Peninsula and despite being surrounded by water we’re actually pretty well connected to local villages and rural facilities. • Getting around the Roseland can be quite fun with pretty winding lanes, stunning walks, ferries and picturesque boat trips. • Some approximate journey times are provided below. • We are very close to: o St Just in Roseland church and creek – 5-10 minute walk / 0.5 miles o St Mawes – 5 minute drive; 2.5 mile walk (takes around an hour and is off road on the coastal path) o Portscatho – 10 minute drive or 1.5 – 2 hour walk (mostly off road) o King Harry Ferry (car ferry) – 7-10 minute drive / 3 miles o Trelissick Gardens – 5 minutes on the King Harry Ferry o Falmouth – 20 minute passenger ferry ride (via St Mawes) • Passenger ferry links to Falmouth (via St Mawes) and onward cruises of the Fal River, to Trelissick Gardens, Truro or the Helston River and various wildlife and sea fishing trips. • Car ferry links to the Cornish mainland including Truro and Trelissick Gardens via the historic and beautiful King Harry Ferry.l • Tonnes of stunning walks from your hut-step (map provided) • Good bus links to St Mawes, Portscatho and Truro. Nowhere is too far for a daytrip. For example, slightly further afield: o St Ives – 1 hour 10 minutes / 30 miles o St Agnes / north coast (Poldark Country) – 50 minutes / 15 miles o The Lizard Peninsula (including Kynance Cove) - 1 hour 15 minutes / 29 miles • We’re happy to recommend walks, pubs, restaurants, farm shops and things to do on the (very occasional odd (!)) rainy day. • Nearest: o Pasty - St Mawes - 5 minute drive o Pub – Several in St Mawes - 5 minute drive / bus ride / 1 hour walk; Portscatho has one; other good pubs at Philleigh, Veryan, Ruan High Lanes and Portloe; on the Feock side of the water the Punchbowl and Ladle is 5 mins from the ferry. o Beach – shingle beaches at St Just creek (5-10 minute walk / 0.5 miles) or 3 sandier beaches at St Mawes (5 minute drive; 2.5 mile walk) or totally sandy beaches at Pendower and Portscatho (5-10 minute drives) o Mini-supermarket / convenience shops / pharmacy –a Co-op, a pharmacy, a newsagents and post office, a bakery and a cash machine are all to be found in St Mawes - 5 minute drive o Big supermarket – Truro has 5 (including a Waitrose) and St Austell (40mins) has 4 or if you’re super organised all the main supermarkets deliver to the Roseland. o Taxi's - On the Roseland we advise booking in advance. Castle Cars St Mawes Whilst we have chosen the strict cancellation policy we understand that during these uncertain times plans may change. If you are not able to travel due to reasons in relation to the pandemic then we will of course offer a full refund. COVID-19: The hut is totally private with its own decking where you will be able to relax. The gate into the garden is used by us as well as you so we have placed a hand sanitiser on the fence. Please use it to protect yourselves and us. We have put another hand sanitising station in the hut for your own use. HENS/DUCKS -We have 6 hens and 2 ducks living in the shared area. They will go about their own business and won't come on to the deck at all. Just to say that this is a rural environment and the ducks will quack and the hens will cluck and sing when they lay their eggs. They wake up with the sun and to keep them as quiet as possible we let them free range. They may go under the hut (they love to perch on the axles of the hut). We think they add to the rural character of the area. RURAL AREA -St Just In Roseland is very rural. Getting a takeaway delivered isn't an option here. If you want to use a taxi to take you somewhere we would recommend booking in advance of your stay.
