This holiday accommodation in our large Edwardian house would suit someone who would like to visit London but retreat to a very safe tranquil setting for a good night's sleep. This accommodation is extremely flexible. Each of our suites consists of two sleeping areas and a private bathroom. There isn’t a kitchen but we provide a few appliances in the suites themselves for simple meals including microwave, kettle, toaster, fridge, induction hob with cast iron pans, crockery and cutlery. We have three suites which we rent on a temporary basis mainly to holiday makers but also to guests on temporary work placements or in-between properties and more recently, to increasingly popular staycation guests. We are happy to rent our suites for longer stays if required. Our suites would suit up to three people (or four if two are small children) for a short stay but for stays of 4 weeks or longer, they would probably only suit one or two guests. Pets are welcome but we would charge an extra cleaning deposit to all pet owners on arrival which we would refund or make deductions from depending on the condition of the room at the end of the stay. Large groups could book two suites or even all three if required. They can all be booked on this site so if you enquire about this I will explain how it can be done. Two of the suites include a TV with the Sky network package, giving all guests access to over 200 channels. Guests at Parkgate House will also have free high speed WiFi for the duration of their stay. Although this is primarily designed as Holiday Accommodation, over the past year we have accommodated more longer stay guests than in previous years as we hosted NHS and other key workers during the lockdown periods. Pre 2020, some long stay guests stayed; including some who were in between homes or having work done on their own homes. Some guests were in the area visiting friends / family or on work placements in the Surrey / London area. We are very flexible and are happy to provide guests with discounted rates for Monday to Friday or Friday to Monday rentals. This has proved useful for guests working in the area who like to go back home at the weekend or weekend guests looking after elderly parents or visiting children who they weren’t able to see during the week. If what is written here doesn’t fit your criteria or price range then please contact us anyway as we are always open to suggestions This is a large Edwardian house and there is a communal entrance on the ground floor which is occasionally shared with other guests. The guest suites are on the upper floors and are accessed via the main entrance hall and up one or two short flights of stairs. The suites themselves are totally private and are not shared with anyone else in the house. We live on the ground floor of this property ourselves most of the time but due to social distancing recommendations we do not have contact with guests at this time. This accommodation is located is in a prime road in Caterham opposite the beautiful Queens Park where you will find tennis courts, a croquet lawn, badminton courts, a charming cricket green, a flower garden, grass bowling and an excellent children's play area. Caterham itself is nestled in the hills of the beautiful North Downs attracting walkers and ramblers from London and beyond. Perfect at this fragile time if you want to avoid crowded locations. If you enjoy riding we can recommend Tandridge Priory Riding Centre in Oxted. We believe they have reopened now. As we are members of the Surrey National Golf Club, when they reopen, all our guests can benefit from temporary membership and can enjoy a truly spectacular carvery lunch in the club house (with or without a good game of golf beforehand). Caterham is a safe, residential area. We have little crime in this area compared to larger, more built up areas. If finding a safe neighbourhood to come home to in the evening is one of your priorities in finding suitable accommodation, then we can assure you that Caterham is an excellent option. This accommodation is a short walk down then up Caterham Hill to Caterham station, where guests can catch a train taking them to central London in less than an hour. Bus stops are just around the corner and can take guests to the station or to neighbouring towns and to Croydon or Redhill where they can shop, have a meal out, go to the cinema etc. We are also within very easy reach of airports, stations and buses. Gatwick airport is just 13 miles away (20KM). We are happy to provide taxi details for our guests of local taxi firms which charge very reasonable rates London is a world class city and as such it is a year round magnet for young and old alike but it can be vast, daunting, expensive and crowded. By staying in Surrey, you can save a considerable amount on hotel costs and still visit London as often as you would like to. This area of Surrey is increasingly popular at the moment as it is perfect for country walks and social distancing. Within driving distance of Caterham are: Hever Castle, the ancestral home of the unfortunate Anne Boleyn, Chartwell, the family home of Winston Churchill, Leeds Castle with its magical towers, turrets and moat, the beautiful Chaldon Church and so much more - all excellent ‘social distancing’ excursions. The weather in the South East of England can be very warm even hot in the summer months (from May to September) but the weather anywhere in England can be quite unreliable so people should always come prepared for rain. The autumn in Surrey is lovely; this area is known for its beautiful, colourful walks; the north downs are spectacular in the autumn months. Springtime is also a good time to visit this area, the bluebell woods just a short walk from the house are magical. Winter can be very cold some years yet extremely mild in others. However, London's attractions are amazing whatever the weather and London in the Christmas season is truly wonderful. We are located just a stone's throw away from charming country pubs, excellent golf courses and so much more. As we are just a short drive from Brighton and other coastal towns, an alternative to London would be day trips to the seaside; we’re less than an hour’s drive from Brighton so we try and go regularly now even if just for a socially distant seaside walk.
