Surrounded by beautiful countryside, sunflowers and vineyards, its location is perfect to explore the local area by foot, bike, or the Charente/Dordogne areas by car, enjoying the relaxed easy driving. Saint-Romain has a restaurant approx. 200 meters from the gites and a shop less than 50 meters away, perfect for the morning croissant run!! •The Pool House; Sleeps up to 2 adults, plus up to 2 children. A beautiful poolside gite, with exposed beams and traditional stonework, accessed via stable style doors, ensuring controlled access to the garden and pool area, providing peace of mind for guests with young children. 1 large double bedroom, with ample space for 2 child’s bed/cots (provided). 1 single bedroom large enough for 2 children. Large, open plan, kitchen and lounge/diner fully equipped with table wear, white goods, iPod docking station, TV, and DVD. Dining table and chairs, sofa, relaxing chairs and single/double day bed. New shower room with toilet and basin. Private garden area with furniture and facilities for outdoor dining. We pride ourselves on 5* customer services. Nothing is too much trouble! A variety of welcome packs are on offer, for your convenience, and need to be ordered at least a week before arrival. The packs will be placed in your gite, before arrival. The choices range from a basic, first morning, breakfast pack, up to a comprehensive pack containing a full food and drinks order. Shopping bill and charges may apply and are payable on arrival. In Aubeterre you'll find many restaurants serving all sorts of styles of food, cafe's, French Artisan studios, gift shops, some stunning views and even a cup cake shop. There is also a man-made beach with a variety of activities spanning all ages, including canoeing/kayaking, tree top activities, fishing, tennis courts and a restaurant/snack bar. Two important historical monuments add to the cultural status of Aubeterre; the extraordinary, monolithic, underground Church of St Jean, and the Romanesque Church of St Jacques, with its stunning façade. Less than 10 minutes’ drive away is the market town of Chalais, where you'll find the local supermarket, along with restaurants, markets etc. Also 10 mins away is the town of St Aulaye, which also boasts a fresh water beach with a variety of entertainment, a Chateaux and market. The Dordogne boarder is quite literally in Aubeterre, which opens up, the vast and beautiful department well known and popular for its beauty,and charm with interesting towns and villages. Further afield but less than an hour away you'll find the stunning city/towns of Bordeaux, St Emilion, Angouleme, Bergerac to name very few of many pretty, historic places of interest. The guests can choose to relax, read a book, sunbathe on the garden furniture; whilst others may decide to be more energetic, amusing themselves with one of the games, from the large selection available. The pool, measuring 12 x 6 meters, is accessed by internal roman style stairs. During the winter, and cooler periods, it can be either partially or fully covered by a hard plastic cover.
