There are chateaux open for public visits. Some of the most beautiful villages in France are nearby - Brantome, Bordeilles, Saint Jean de Cole. There is canoeing down the Dronne, lots of hiking trails and a great cycling trail. You will need your own car to get around. Local airports are Limoges (1hr), Bergerac (1hr), Bordeaux (2hrs). The local TGV is Angouleme (1hr). There are car hire offices at all of these locations.
