Built in (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) this is a stylish and modern ground floor apartment; centrally located very close to restaurants, shops, ski hire, bus stop and train station. It consists of a large open kitchen, dining and lounge area with log fire and underfloor heating; two double bedrooms and a bathroom. The wrap-around terrace gets sun throughout the day great for chilling after an energetic day on the mountains (weather permitting). For further fun and relaxation a swimming pool with sauna is on-site. We have been visiting Les Diablerets for over 10 years now and have created a home from home with all the creature comforts provided. It is a place to relax, get away from it all and re-energise. A great place to spend quality time with friends and family. You will have the apartment all to yourselves. I live in the UK but am happy to be contacted by telephone, text or email. There is a local agent who speaks French, English, some Italian and German that can show you around and offer help if needed. There is plenty to keep everyone happy; skiers and non-skiers, the active and those who just want to relax, adults and children. You can do high energy sports, swimming pools and spas, serious mountain pursuits or general sightseeing, many to be found right on your doorstep. The village is a very friendly place with people who have lived their all there lives and who are intent on it thriving while keeping its character and charm. We love the local shops such as the laiterie which stocks milk and cheese supplied from surrounding farms, but also acts as a deli with fresh rotisserie chickens and ice cream. Also many an afternoon on the slopes has been curtailed to watch the 6 Nations Rugby tournament in the Bar L'Ormanon or Chez La Croix. When out on the mountains it is difficult to recommend any particular place to eat as there are lots of fantastic restaurants serving traditional Swiss, new Swiss and Italian, alongside the usual self-service ski fare. In the summer after a long hike up a mountainside pack lunches are not always necessary as you will find fully catered Refuges or Huts to provide welcome sustenance including a large beer, though that depends on the difficulty of the walk home. After a day expending energy on the mountains there is nothing better than to relax on the spacious terrace in the sunshine, before getting ready for a guilt-free dinner; either with friends, family, or on your own for special time together. However you spend your time in Les Diablerets we think it is a truly magical place to visit. As people travelling from North Yorkshire, the ease of access has proven time and again to be a winner. For short trips you can fly then public transport will take you to opposite the apartment, this is reliable and relaxing; no more 5 hr transfers with coach pick ups at 4am! If you want to drive it is simple enough when taken at a steady pace approximately 7-8 hours from Calais. Walking distances to local facilities: Ski / postal bus and train station 3 mins Nearest bar / restaurant 3 mins Ski hire / shop 4 mins Coop supermarket 12 mins Tourist Office and Village centre 10 mins Meilleret ski lift 10 - 15 mins Ski / Postal bus times: Meilleret lift 4 mins Col du Pillon, Glaci (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) mins Close to other resorts of Villars, Gstaad, Leysin, Les Moses, Château d'Oex and Schonreid; accessible by bus and mountain trains if no car. Things to do: As part of the ski area of Les Diablerets, the Glacier (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) guarantees skiing from November to May. During the summer season there is the Alpine Coaster, Europe's highest tracked toboggan run. It also has the Peak Walk, the world's first suspension bridge connecting two peaks. The bridge, which is 108m long, is freely accessible all year round. The Glacier is also one of the most popular areas for the extreme sport of Freeriding; ONLY for the very experienced skier/paraglider, but it makes for an amazing spectator sport! For the rest of us skiers, Glacier (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) offers a range of cruising blues, fun reds and long black runs. The other main ski area within the village is Meilleret which also links to the resort of Villars. There is a cross-country network of tracks consisting of 30km of classic Nordic track and 15km of skating trails. Further attractions include a 7.2km long toboggan run, snow-shoe walks, ice rink, dog sledging, snow biking and ice fall climbing. Spotting wildlife is another fun activity in both winter and summer; Chamois, Ibex, Marmots abound along with Golden Eagles. The domesticated animals graze high on the alpine slopes in summer; classic cream and brown cows, the Hérens (black fighting cows), sheep, goats and even pigs can be seen. In the summer walking and cycling (road and mountain) are the main attractions but for the more adventurous there is paragliding, canyoning, mud biking, via ferrata, aerial extreme, indoor climbing wall and lots more. There is a network of mountain refuges providing food and accommodation for the longer treks. Conventional sports are available such as tennis, outdoor swimming, golfing etc. Water sports and a lido can be found at Villeneuve on Lake Geneva. From May to Oct, get a Free Access card from the Tourist Office, which can be used on all the alpine transports and entrance to sports facilities. The Aquaparc at Bouveret (34km) and the thermal spa of Lavey-Les-Bains (40km) are good alternative activities in poor weather or just for something different. The region prides itself on its culture and hosts may music and film festivals throughout the year, the world famous Jazz Festival of (Website hidden by Airbnb) only 40km away. There are plenty of opportunities for days out if you want to see a little more of Switzerland; some require a car but many don't: Château d'Aigle, surrounded by Chablais vineyards, houses the Vine, Wine and Etiquette museum, walk down and take the train home again. Château Chillon a magnificent castle situated on the shores of Lake Geneva, then take a splendid stroll beside the water to Montreux. For a true flavour of Switzerland a bit further afield try: The Nestlé chocolate factory, Maison de Cailler at Broc. The town of Gruyère for an "Alien" encounter at the Château and guided tour by "Cherry the cow" at the Gruyère cheese factory. Access Geneva is the nearest airport, from there you can take the train which stops directly opposite the apartment (2hrs 30) or hire a car (2hrs). Directions for trains: Geneva airport to Aigle then change to the mountain train for Les Diablerets, this is a wonderfully relaxed way to arrive with spectacular views. From UK take the Eurostar to Paris, from there the TGV from Gare de Lyon to Lausanne, change for Aigle and continue as above. As already stated a car is not necessary but can add flexibility to your stay especially in summer. Driving from the UK takes approximately 8hr 30 from Calais. In winter snow chains are required. A tried and tested route from Calais follow signs for: St Quentin - Reims - Dijon - Besancon - Pontarlier - Lausanne - Simplon Pass but turn off motorway at Aigle then follow signs for Col du Pillon/Les Diablerets. When you reach the village take the right turn at the fork in the road, following the train tracks, the apartments are on the left opposite the railway crossing on right. There is a platform on the terrace if you wish to bring your own small portable BBQ.
