A great base while touring Cradle Country or riding Wild Mersey mountain bike trails, Base Camp will suit families with teenage children or small groups of adults touring in one or two vehicles. This roomy modern home offers two living areas each with a TV, two bathrooms (one has grab rails & shower seat), ramp access, kitchen with fridge, pantry, oven, cooktop & microwave; heat pumps / air conditioners and heated towel rails, back deck. Lots of natural light, fully insulated, double-glazed. Well-equipped, roomy and modern inside with a generous sunny back deck and Weber gas barbeque outside. Guests have the whole house to themselves, including fully-equipped kitchen, two living areas, two bathrooms, front ramp, laundry and keyless entry, back deck with sliding glass door entry. Host lives on a neighbouring property and may access the driveway and back shed during the day. Railton is at the centre of the Wild Mersey Mountain Bike Trails development and is also home to Railton parkrun. It is known as the Town of Topiary and has a quiet village atmosphere. It's within an hour's drive of Launceston, Cradle Mountain Visitor Centre* and Burnie. Two cafes, a coffee roaster, a brewery, a pub and and an RSL are in easy walking distance. A pizza shop / takeaway is open most evenings. Main street shops and services include a post office / news agency, a petrol station / mechanic, a pharmacy, a joinery, a metal workshop and a community information service which also sells local arts & crafts. A well-stocked convenience store is located at the petrol station; the nearest larger supermarkets are at Sheffield (12 minutes drive), Latrobe (15 minutes), Devonport (25 minutes) and Deloraine (35 minutes). * when searching for directions from Base Camp Railton to Cradle Mountain it is important to search for "Cradle Mountain Visitor Centre" as some mapping apps provide the wrong directions via old forestry roads and mining tracks that can no longer carry vehicles. Railton is at the intersection of Sheffield Main Road and Railton Road (which runs from Elizabeth Town via Railton to Latrobe). Buses run from Devonport to Railton seven days a week. It is also on the Tasmanian Trail, a mixed use recreation track for horses, cyclists and walkers and is accessible by mountain bike from Latrobe and from Sheffield. Base Camp is a five minute level walk to the main street shops. This house is in a residential area with quiet neighbours, so sorry, no parties. The back deck is about a metre above the ground with no rails. This is a new building and landscaping is still in progress. Each living room also has a dining table and dining chairs. We highly recommend nearby Native Rock Boarding Kennels and Cattery for pets, it's where we board our own from time to time. The property is strictly no smoking, the five metre from windows and doors rule applies irrespective of weather conditions.
