Pretty cottage in Varzy, central Burgundy.
A fully self-contained holiday home which suits families and groups of friends. Central to Varzy, a medieval village in the Nievre, Burgundy. Varzy has fantastic history and was an important village in the Middle Ages. Within an hour of many wonderful sites and opportunities for day trips: Sancerre, Auxerre, Avallon, Nevers, the Morvan, Clamecy and many other beautiful towns and regions are at your doorstop. We rent the cottage for a minimum of 1 week, in/out on a Saturday. Three bedrooms (one with ensuite) and two other areas that have sofa beds, so potentially up to 10 people can stay. Three bathrooms with toilet and shower in each (no baths). The house is compact and clean. A cosy kitchen means you can prepare your meals, and in the summer you can enjoy the courtyard with bbq and outdoor furniture. The kitchen is stocked with plenty of equipment, many food basics such as pasta, rice, oil, sugar, coffee and tea to get you started. Rooms are clean and bright. Three compact bathrooms are have modern fittings (shower, toilet, basin, heated towel rails). The house has central heating so it is possible to visit in the colder months. In the summer the stone walls keep the interior reasonably cool. Washing machine is in the kitchen and there is a clothes rack for drying in the summer months, or indoors during winter. The fantastic attic living room area contains a bar where you can enjoy an aperitif and restock before you leave (honesty system). We've also added a new HD TV up there, where you can log in with your own Netflix account, for example, or watch a range of French TV shows. Hundreds of books in the bookshelves in the attic and bedroom. Plenty of kitchenware, everything you need to have a home away from home. The house is a cottage, not huge, but is comfortable. A spare room on the ground level can hold your luggage and is where all the household linen is kept. The entire property is yours for the duration of your stay. It is your home away from home. A local French manager is available by phone (if you speak French), or you can ring/email the owners in Australia if you have any issues. Make contact with owners by email with any specific questions or issues, we'll get things sorted for you where we can. This quiet village is quaint and full of interesting history. Plenty of opportunities for walking, cycling, walking some of the pilgrim route. Varzy has a wonderful museum and many other tourism sites within a short distance. There's a supermarket and a great bakery, a butcher and florist, a couple of small bars. There is no restaurant in the village but the Le Goglu bar in the town square has been recently taken over by a young couple and meals are available. There is also a new epicerie in the Main Street. The supermarket is open every day. You'll need a hire car to explore the region. It is easiest to hire a car in Paris or take a train to a regional city such as Auxerre or Nevers, and hire a car from there. The closest train station is Clamecy (around 12 km) and there is a local taxi service. In winter months, please give at least two week's notice as we will need to have the heating setup. If there are no guests the heating is disconnected until needed.
