We would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the traditional territories of the Indigenous peoples of the Treaty 7 region and the Métis Settlements and Métis Nation of Alberta, Regions 2, 3 and 4. We respect the histories, languages, and cultures of First Nations, Metis, Inuit, and all First Peoples of Canada, whose presence continues to enrich our community. Meet Butch and Debby. Both have a love for outdoors, family and friends, which lead them to want to share Brother Fish Ranch with like minded people. Their quest to acquire a tipi lead them to Deanna and Bruce Starlight of the Tsuu T’ina First Nations, their neighbors to the west of Calgary. They had met Bruce in 2020 while searching for tipi poles for a friend. A quick call to Bruce in early winter 2021 lead to the creation of two beautiful tipi's which now reside on their property in the Foothills of Alberta. "Working with Bruce and Deanna was an amazing experience" says Debby of her time spent in the creation of these beautiful pieces. "We were able to sit with them, listen and hear their stories and truly make a heart connection with these kind and generous humans." Deanna is a master seamstress and has stitched together countless tipis that now reside across North America. "We are so lucky and blessed to have two of these masterpieces." comments Butch. Bruce and Deanna work with their adult children for the art work and in the set-up, blessing and story telling of the tipi. Butch and Debby were gifted the story of the tipi, which has a Blackfoot canvas and Tsuu T’ina bones and are looking forward to sharing that story with our guests. This well treed, private acreage offers a little piece of heaven. A perfect getaway with a private fire pit for an evening campfire. We’re located only 6 minutes south of Calgary, where you’ll find 3 beautiful golf courses within a 10-minute drive. Nearby is world-class fly fishing, as well as hiking and biking trails, and bird watching. We have delicious local eateries for dine-in or take-out, we’d be happy to recommend a few favourites, just ask! While you’re here, you’ll have the opportunity to meet or see many of our farm animals. Including Chocolate Horse and Holly Berry (horse Holly, not human Halle Berry!) and goats Lucy and Merlin, who love giving visitors their best G.O.A.T. advice. If you enjoy falling asleep looking up at the starry night, frogs singing in the background and night birds call, then Brother Fish Ranch is your perfect destination. The tipi space is well appointed with a Queen size sleigh bed, luxurious bed linens and duvet. Beautiful seating under a glistening chandelier, room to do morning yoga and meditation. If you love waking up to bird song (including chickens), this little piece of paradise is for you! You will be directed to your parking area, adjacent to the tipi upon arrival. We would like to offer a cold sparkling water in the Zen Garden, should you like to join us. We can chat about local eateries and things to do in the area. We would love to get to know you. We have lived here for 14 years. Our home is the original homestead house and the property has beautiful lilac shelter belts and towering poplars. We are fortunate to be surrounded by trees and sheltered from the encroaching city. Our close proximity to the city of Calgary provides access to Uber and taxis, but it is probably best to have a vehicle for access to city amenities. We also offer Breakfast boxes, crystal themed picnics, S'mores and more. Let us know what you might be interested in and we will forward the menu and price list.
