Ivy Cottage

Ivy Cottage started life as an old smithy and is full of character with exposed beams a particular feature. The cottage is tastefully decorated and has been finished to a very high standard. Situated in the idyllic Ullswater valley, this beautiful cottage sleeps 2-6 people and has been renovated to a very high standard. It is ideal for families or couples and can be let in conjunction with Watermillock Cottage (next door, sleeps 9) for extended families. The location of Ivy Cottage, combined with its high standards and range of facilities, make this one of the best high quality cottages in the north lakes. The cottage dates from the sixteenth century and includes original beams, a mezzanine level bedroom, bright wooden flooring, bathroom and shower room, and a lovely garden. The cottage is virtually carbon neutral using state of the art solar thermal and biomass for hot water and central heating. Electricity is supplied through hydro and PV panels. Water treatment uses reed bed technology. The site itself offers a fantastic child and dog friendly ‘olde worlde’ bar providing local ales and a great atmosphere, as well as an indoor and outdoor children’s adventure playground, local shop, and unlimited hot water and central heating through our onsite biomass boiler. A large, enclosed garden houses a two storey play house and sunken trampoline. (The garden is shared with Watermillock Cottage.) We can offer as much or as little help as you require. We are always available to offer help and advice if needed. Ullswater is set in one of the most idyllic valleys in England. There are plenty of scenic walks direct from the cottage door, and local attractions such as the Ullswater steamers, Aira Force waterfalls, Dalemain House, and many more. Penrith station is just 8 miles away; a bus comes to within 1.5 miles of the cottage. If you are travelling by public transport, we are happy to pick you up from the bus/train stop. The large garden is shared with a second holiday cottage. The cottage is adjacent to our holiday park called The Quiet Site where we have a small shop, and also a lovely cosy bar which is open in the evenings. We are happy to let Friday for 7 nights or Friday for 3 nights and Monday for 4 nights; we will consider requests for other times. Ivy Cottage can be let with Watermillock Cottage as a single property sleeping up to 15.
