Beautiful calm rooftop studio with stunning views
A beautiful self-contained, fully equipped holiday studio with a large terrace with stunning views, decorated in traditional Cretan style. Ideal for couples, families of 3-4 people or for solo retreats. Immersed in green olive groves, peaceful and calm atmosphere, with breathtaking views of sea and mountains landscapes. Approx 20km outside of Chania, with easy access to Crete’s incredible West and South coasts, including Balos and Falassarna. Will need own transport. Available all year round. This independent studio apartment is on the first floor, adjacent to a family villa built on top of one of the most beautiful hills of the area. Upon arrival, a stone staircase brings you up to the big terrace with breathtaking panoramas of the surrounding green hills, snow-capped mountains and sea views spreading from the peninsula of Stavros to the golf of Kolimvari. You can relax and eat on the large terrace, which features a traditional wash basin, a large wooden table and chairs, and a built-in sitting bench with seat cushions from which to enjoy the views while sipping a glass of local wine. As you open the traditional stable style door of the studio you are welcomed by a spacious and finely decorated space, designed and furnished in typical Cretan style, with wooden ceiling and floor, traditional ‘odas’ wooden bed, fireplace, stone sink and red brick built kitchen cupboards with laced fabric curtains. The kitchen area is equipped with a large stone sink, electric oven, gas hobs, traditional Cretan style wall plate rack, fridge and red brick built cupboards where all the kitchen equipment is stored. There is a percolator, an electric kettle, and an Italian moca machine for espresso coffee. Opposite the comfy bed lies a Cretan-style working fireplace, a wooden seat bench with traditionally loom woven cushions and a small square table and two additional chairs. And opposite the kitchen there is a spacious white ‘decapé’ fitted wardrobe with glass panes, a hanging rail and a set of drawers for storage. As you open the wooden bathroom door, you’ll notice the round hand-painted wash basin, shower floor made of large sea pebbles dipped in indigo blue cement and matching colour floor tiles. The bathroom has a window and there is a hair dryer available. A wooden ladder on the side of the bathroom door leads to the mezzanine sleeping space, where a double mattress with a bedside light make this space cosy and special. The studio is very bright and well ventilated during hot days thanks to its 5 windows which also offer spectacular views to the all four directions. The lighting in the studio is discreet to offer a romantic cosy atmosphere with bedside lamps for reading. In the studio apartment you’ll also find tourist guides, a guestbook and a selection of literature books for leisure reading. The apartment is adjacent to a family villa and part of a complex of 2 other studios. It has its own parking space, private staircase, entrance, and large rooftop terrace. Guests are free to roam the olive groves around the property and use the main terrace in front of the villa, which gives stunning views across the whole North-West coastline. Your host Eugenia will be available and present, living in the family villa on the premises. She is on hand to pick you up from a meeting point at check-in, to show you around the local shops in Tavronitis, to offer any assistance and advice, if needed, and to answer all your questions about the local area, customs and sights. She even offers extra activities like Greek cooking classes, language lessons, moon nature walks, and can recommend many others! While she enjoys socialising with guests, she also very much respects your privacy. The studio and neighbouring villa is immersed in nature and surrounded by olive groves. It is up on a hill and away from other houses, making the whole place very quiet and peaceful. Within walking distance you will encounter the first villagers' homes who may greet and welcome you whole-heartedly and let you taste their homemade products (thyme honey, raki and rakomelo, fresh eggs and goat cheese "mizithra"). Approximately 3km away, in the village of Vouves you’ll be able to visit the most ancient olive tree of Greece, the branches of which were used to make the 2004 Olympic games athletes' wreaths. You’ll also find wonderful tavernas and places to eat nearby, including the famous Frosinis Garden. You will need your own transport to move around, but the village with its local cafe and church is within walking distance. Public transport to get to and from Chania city centre and to and from Paleohora are just 20 mins walk. Nature walks are very popular and give you an opportunity to explore the fantastic local landscapes. If you have a good sense of direction and adventure, you could even walk 40-60mins through the olive groves and down the hill to the local beach! There is a petrol station on the main road (Tavronitis-Voukolies), 5 mins drive from the property. Tavronitis village (5mins drive away) offers supermarkets, an internet café, a baker's shop, a fishmonger, a florist, a chemist, a pastry shop, a newsagents, cashpoints, bars and restaurants. Most of these shops stay open very late at night during summer months. Are you looking for a holiday home away from the touristy noisy areas of the island but still at easy reach to the most beautiful beaches and landscapes of Chania? Do you enjoy watching starry nights or breathtaking views of the moon as well as day and night views of the city of Chania and the golf of Kolimbari? Whether you are a couple who dreams of a romantic relaxing holiday, a family who enjoys the beauty of nature, breathtaking views and the warm hospitality of the locals, or a group of friends who want to explore somewhere different but still stay together and be at an only 20 mins drive away from the night life of Chania city centre or Platanias, our studios will meet your needs! The strategic position of the location will offer you a vast choice of short drive day trips to the famous beaches of Balos (60mins), Falassarna (40mins), Elafonissi (80mins), Paleochora (70mins) and many more! The local people are very friendly and will be happy to sell their home produce such as fresh eggs, homemade local fresh goat cream cheese, homemade thyme honey, fruit, vegetables, raki and rakomelo. Every Friday there is also a market at the nearby village of Kolimbari where you can stock up on fresh produce.
