It is perhaps most famous for a pair of medieval buildings, both owned by the National Trust. Coggeshall won the Essex Best Kept Village award in its category in 1998 and 2001–03; it was named the Eastern England & Home Counties Village of the Year in 2003. Kelvedon train station is 1.6 miles from The Cottage. Taxis and a free shuttle bus are available to transit between the station and the town. Local busses are available to transit between Colchester and Chelmsford.
