A stylish country cottage holiday rental in the Scottish Borders with all the modern comforts and bags of character. Set in rural parkland but with the convenience of a town nearby. A stylish holiday cottage in the romantic Scottish Borders in the magnificent grounds of Wedderburn Castle, close to the pretty village of Duns. Keeper's Cottage is located in the Georgian stable block at the castle and combines traditional details with contemporary style. The cottage has free Wifi. Features include a spacious farmhouse-style dining-kitchen with a large table for family meals, stone walls, fireplace with decorative range and a fully-equipped modern kitchen. The sitting room has a stone fireplace with wood-burning stove, large flat-screen television and comfortable sofas for kicking back in front of the fire. There are wooden floorboards and antique floor tiles throughout the ground floor of the cottage, with the floorboards cut from a single ancient ash tree that grew beside the castle and fell in a storm. The first floor has two bedrooms: one double and another that can be used as a double or twin room. There is also a large, comfortable sofa bed in the sitting room that can be used to accommodate two additional guests. The double bedroom has an oak bed and en-suite bathroom with luxurious 1.8m bath and rain shower, limestone tiling and wooden floors. The second bedroom has a private bathroom with antique roll-top bath for long soaks after country walks in the surrounding area. Guests have use of the entire cottage. There is also a shared garden to the front of the property and guests are welcome to walk in the woodland and parkland and on the driveways around the cottage. We like to leave our guests to enjoy their holiday in peace. Check-in is any time after 4pm and we leave the key in a safe place for you to pick up at any time that suits your travel plans. We send you extensive information about the local area in advance of your stay and answer any questions in advance. We provide all of our telephone numbers in case of emergency and you may see us and other staff around the castle grounds but we tend not to wish to interrupt your precious relaxation time. The village of Duns is 1.5 miles from the cottage. This means that you have the tranquility of the country but the convenience of a town nearby. Duns is a small but well-serviced town with food shops, a good pharmacy, gift shops, cafes and a small supermarket. There are lovely walks around Duns and the surrounding area. There are also activities for children including a soft play centre, tennis courts, swimming pool and play parks. The cottage is well-located to explore the historic houses, castles and abbeys of the Scottish Borders as well as for outdoor activities including golf, surfing, fishing, coastal and countryside walks, riding, cycle routes, boat trips, 4x4 driving, clay pigeon shooting and much more. There is parking outside the cottage. A car is strongly advised in order to make the most of the local area. Dogs are welcome and we charge a £25 per dog supplement. We ask that they are not left unattended unless in a dog crate.
